This is just my take on your story. I was fortunate my father had sponsored me back in '88 , so I lived in Mississauga, Ontario and now I live just north of there. For me, personally I couldn't settle into another province let alone a small town because I am use to living close to the GTA. I would visit these small towns, but don't think I could get accustom living there. For sure some people will feel social isolation & social exclusion in smaller towns & cities compare to urban communities. But taking the Via train (the Canadian) from Toronto to Vancouver is on my bucket list to see some nothern & western parts country.

Grass always looks greener on the other side. Watching your journey it seems like you have accomplished a lot in the time. Big cities have its own challenges.

Talking about a feeling of being black, that’s so true. My wife is a graduate student in Canada and for her almost two years of being in Canada, we(my children and I) decided to visit her in December of 2024. Together with my wife, we decided to visit her big sister in Chilliwack, BC. For the first time in my life, it dawned on me that I was black. The people were nice but I could not help but to marvel at the look everywhere we went.

I came to Toronto in 1988 and the city was not that diverse. It take time for the population to increase. If you are considering moving to Ontario, you would have to move to the suburbs. Toronto is expensive. If you didn't buy a house there by 2011, you have to be a millionaire to afford it now. Also, your channel would not matter if you were in Toronto or Montreal, Canad as a whole is weak in the media and entertainment. Everyone leaves to go to the US, where there is more sponsorships and you can get paid from Tiktok. Try moving to Edmonton first. Alberta homes offer better features like the US. Ontario builders give you the minimum because of the demand.

I migrated to Canada and landed in Toronto, it was a culture shock landing in the dead of winter. Over the years, I have to admit that big cities are not for me, not full-time. I will stay for a while but the small escapes suit me best.

Home became Kitchener and I loved it, with all the history and culture, it suited me fine. However, I left Canada twice and I will not return...I talk about it on my Sheri Says YouTube channel. Hop over and join the conversation.

If she was born in Jamaica, she would not learn another culture but ours, only what she sees on television and internet. And I’m sure she is associated with different children from other background and race, especially when she start going to school. I can bet her best friend won’t be a Jamaican.
