Since I can remember, and I'm 54 years old so that dates back to long before the internet, I've been trying to live happily inside a cozy echo chamber: It doesn't work! I would have to stop talking to my family, my neighbors, my colleagues at work ... I would have to stop watching movies, or tv, or reading my stupid liberal media, or watching David's crummy know-better show...    This responsible, respectfully worried,  enlightened yet deeply concerned talk about the bogeyman called `echo chamber´ is a deflection. It keeps us from talking head on about the growing hate and fear in our societies, about the irreconcilable rifts, and irreparable wounds too many people are suffering from. It keeps `us´ from talking about a socio-economic system `we´ seem unable to change for the better.

i know an old guy who has racist views and white supremacist views. He has been a friend of my family since a really long fucking time, and no one ever noticed jajaj, i am not kidding that once i brought this up to my dad and he was like "what? no, i haven´t noticed" . I am from chile, most people here are race mixed so the talk about race is pretty much at nothing right now, so it can be understood why he hasn't had any chance to show his "true colors", the conversation has never been on the table, and the guy in the past has been so nice to everyone that they wouldn't even care, they would think of it as thoughts of a crazy old man and move on. No one would even notice, because he is just so damn nice, this is what leads me to be okay with the "good people on both sides" argument. Maybe some of them are on a bad place, maybe they are dumb, maybe they haven´t thought the whole through yet or maybe they just want to be edgy, but that doesn't mean that all of them are total monsters who deserve a beating. Today i watched a video of a black man who has made a big part of his life talking people out of white supremacy, and he talks about people there who are willing to talk and therefore can (and have been) "rehabilitated". This does not condone racism or makes it ideologically equal to "anti-fascism", but it is an explanation to why donald trump said that.
Antifa with all his talk of being anti authoritarianism they are pretty fucking authoritarian as it has been showed in events where neither the speakers or the attendants where fascist or racists in anyway, and they still managed to destroy property and attack people just for having a different point of view. Violence in western society is almost never okay, no matter which side or ideas you have, when you cross that line you´ve already crossed a line. And just as the neo nazis and the fascists, the antifa show their violent tendencies everywhere they appear, and i know this because i have met this people here in chile. Even in the rhetoric they show the same violence when you replace the word bourgeoisie with an ethnicity. Trump should have condemned them both by name the very first day, racism is a horrible sin and it does not belong everywhere, but it doesn't make anyone who believes in it into a lost cause. They guy i first talked you about to me is a lost cause, and i really don´t care as long as he doesn't do anything violent or dangerous, which is my personal standard for this (you are free to do whatever you like about this). I won´t waste any time trying to change his mind. With many of this young guys there is hope yet and it would be mistake to give up on all of them, doing otherwise just adds to their victim narrative and you emboldening something when you intended to do the opposite.
