▶ How to play Schubert's Sonata on an original Arpeggione

~
The fortepiano was built in 1992 by Monika May in Marburg. It is a copy after an original Viennese instrument made by Anton Walter in 1785 that is part of the instrument collection “ Monika May / Gerald Woehl” Marburg.
~
The Arpeggione is an original instrument from 1847 made by Georg Tiefenbruner in Munich. Compared to other surviving instruments it has a rather small corpus, more likely a guitar than a cello, although it is a melt down of these two. The bow is a violin bow made by Thomas M. Gerbeth, Vienna 2019.

Recorded on June 13th 2021 (Frankfurt, Germany).

This is the best version I can find on youtube of a recording with an arpeggione, well done! I just love the unique sound of the instrument, with bowing like a viola da gamba and plucking like a guitar. I hope someday I will have the opportunity to play such an interesting piece of music history.

Thank you for this video. Finally I can listen to this sonata in a way it supposed to sound!

Bravo, fantastic playing from both, the arpegione being particularly revealing.

Extra! It is great pleasure to hear this sonata as was composed by Schubert.

Bravissimi ! Finalmente gli strumenti appropriati !

Great! The fortepiano seems to be a bit before Schubert's time (the Deletaille & Roudier performance uses a warmer period instrument that I think matches the music's character better), but I love the virtuosity and great blend between the fortepiano and arpeggione here!

들어본 슈베르트 아르페지오 첼로 소나타중 최고 밋밋하지 않고 펄쩍 펄쩍 뛰는 연주

So far the best version I've heard.Full of convincing musical characterisations, although there are some moments in the second movement when I prefer the modern piano. But it wouldn't fit to this small arpeggione.

can you please do a video or a series on the arpeggione? bows, strings, finger technique, instrument maintenance, where to buy, costs, repetoire, technique, exercises, tuning?

The reason why you're using a Violin Bow has to due w/ the size of the Body. Nicolas Deletaille uses a Cello Bow as the Body on his is a little bit bigger.

Very nice indeed - EXCEPT for using original instruments. There's never any justification for it.
