They say there is gold everywhere on the Fraser River. Yet gold should not deposit in sand bars. Lets gold pan some and test to see if there is gold in pure sand.

Dan, I finally got out and did my first panning yesterday, motivated in part by your videos. I found no gold, but was pleased to be able to condense down to fine black sand. The Truckee River is not famous for gold, but that's where I am currently. The area was rather featureless, and water level was low.

"I wanna know if there is gold in nothing but sand."

Well of course there's no gold, it's nothing but sand.

Gold is heavier, the sand and gold has already been sifted by nature and the river, with the lighter sand bars being the dross, (unlike natural sand coming off a mountain). But you knew this, I wonder where you are taking us on the next journey with you :)

Not unexpected as all gold will have settled out. A sand bar is in effect the waste, washed away residue material of natural panning processes. All gold will be elsewhere. If any gold it maybe on the bedrock under the entire sandbar volume.or before the sandbar, where the sand grains came from.

We panned gold on sandy beaches in s.e. Alaska back in the 70s, every pan. You look for a heavy swirl of red sand, which is actually tiny rubies, dig down until you find a rusty patch, about 1-3 ft. And pan the rusty sand. Nice trail of flour gold behind the black sand. Every pan. We only did this occasionally on our rare day off. We were Loggers, and young. This was right on the Pacific Ocean with a fairly narrow strip of sand that went for miles. With a vertical 40-50 ft. Cliff and the mountains started after that up to the glaciers about 3 miles away. So the mother load was up there somewhere under the ice.
Yes we hiked up a narrow steep canyon and small stream with a sluce box and a couple pans all the way to the glacier. Nada. Had fun up there most of the day. Guess what a glacier does on a hot day. Yup, that small stream was now a class 6 rapid, 4-6 ft. deep. We all made it out but just barely. Two of us were swept away and we figured they were goners. But thankfully we caught up with them, half drowned. The two Alaskas. #1 The tourist brochures, all pretty scenery, wildlife, hunting and fishing and trapping. #2 The Alaska that wants to kill you.

I would like to see Dan do it again, but stratify until there’s a cup left, then dump another scoop, stratify down to a cup, over and over…then pan it out. Imagine if he stratified 10 shovel fulls…MORE SPECKS!

My guess is that there is gold in that sand bar, but on the order of 1-2 specks in every five buckets of sand.

"One Pan full of sand"
It reminds me of one of those phrases in school

Yukon Dan! When I was young, I went with my mother to Goldman with you in the Fraser valley. Great experience! Can’t believe I’m seeing you on YouTube. Glad you’re doing well.

If DAN didnt find any in the sand...that means it was just too small for the camera/human eye to see. Cuz the man has NEVER BEEN SKUNKED🤗🤜🤛👍

I think the deeper you go with sand the more you'll increase your chances, the gold will get pushed under

There has got to be tons more gold out there.
I can't imagine all the gold was found during the gold rush.

Obviously I don't live on the Fraser. I live on Lewis Creek period in Vermont below you. When we flood hard I find flood gold in the sand in our yard. Roughly three to 10 pieces per pan. There's just so much sand I can't process at all. I ran a couple buckets through my sluice and found a small smile. So uncertain conditions yes you can find gold in pure sand. Just depends on the situation.

I don't know that just a one-pan test is valid. And, considering that gold sinks, you might want to take your sand at a deeper level. When do you find gold at the surface?

There was literally gold on the screen when he said there was no gold
