No you don’t have to lower the intensity of your first set
You go to failure on your normal set
Which is RPE10 or RIR0
Then you lower the weight
You go to failure again

The main purpose of a drop set is to completely gas out your muscles and you only do it on your last set
And the body part you wanna drop set is the one you're weak in cuz it actually does induce more growth for that particular muscle

the whole idea is to squeeze out the last bit of remaining strength after the normal set a drop set isn't less effective or whatever

If you actually do a normal set and are at total failure then Dropsets actually work, since you get closer to failure with them. The one thing that's actually (kinda) true in this video is that many people lower the intensity of their actual set if they do a Dropset but you have to keep in mind that that's just doing the set wrong

I disagree here. There are multiple times I have gone to muscular failure on an exercise (Yes I know what training to true muscular failure is, im not a dork) and then lowered the weight to do another set right after my working set, and done a few reps to failure, dropped the weight and done the same thing. There is no need to lower the intensity just because you are doing a drop set.

I agree with you tho that they are seen as better than they are, they are just like a regular set but done with no rest after your working set. It is very effective if you are in a rush and don’t have time to do X amount of sets of every exercise. They are not better than a working set, neither worse (in my opinion) but great when time on the clock is low for you as I said!

If you did 150 on pushdowns to failure you could still do some more reps at a much lower weight like 85-100

That’s why you’re not supposed to preemptively stop the first part of the superset. Most people use them if they are in a hurry and need to get out faster, not bc they think it’s better. Hating on dropsets keeping you small

I do drop sets in lateral raises or other exercises so my workouts don't take as long

I always drop set on my last set, I do 5 sets for every workout, and 3-4 workouts per session.

No but drop sets are for when you cannot do the bigger weight so you lower the weight, you dont lower the intensity of the first set. You increase the intensity of the lift

I thought the purpose of lowering the weight in drop sets is to reach failure multiple times?

Nah drop sets are a great way to end a workout. Like if you're doing 3 sets of tricep extensions. You could just do the 3rd set till you cant do full reps anymore but you can squeeze a few more reps on a lower weight and in my opinion better than finishing with half reps that have no strech.

Agreed. If you're going to actual failure, it means you're completely emptying the tank by struggling with a half rep. The point of a drop set it to fully use up all your juice by using a lower weight, but true failure (absolute or technical) involves using all your remaining energy on a half rep, which you fail. That's why it's called failure. You push until you literally fail a rep.
