Mapping Coastline Changes using Google Earth Engine

Would you like to map on far your region's coastline has changed? Well, I just made a script in Google Earth Engine to do that.

I am using multi-temporal Landsat data from 1990 to 2020 where I am using the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) to mask the land. The value of land will be the same as the year. The land data will be part of an image collection where we will do max composite and the newest land part will be on top to show the difference between earlier year land and new. This difference is the coastline change.

I hope this video and script help.

From this result can we calculate how much of the shore area has been lost to erosion or gained by accretion
