In the early 1990s, the Brazilian band Skyscraper started playing on its shows a cover song from a recently released album from the German powerhouse Helloween.
The album was called "Pink Bubbles Go Ape". The song? Number One.
As a fan of Helloween, Skyscraper learned the song as soon as it first came out, and this cover became a fan favorite in all of their shows
Anyone that is familiar with Skyscraper will remember when everybody would join the band on the chorus for a loud "Now it is time for happiness"
The friendship built over this 3 decades of Skyscraper persists to this day and all of its current and former members still talk to each other and exchange messages
So, when someone in the group pitched the idea of making one of those "Quarantine videos" (one of the trademarks of the unique year of 2020) the song that we picked was Helloween's "Number One"
And then, it all began - everyone tried to find a way to record their audios and videos. Some used professional gear. Others, just their cell phones and tablets, because that's what they had in hand.
One interesting thing is that this project started without any relationship to the band Skyscraper.
When we realized, everyone involved was either a current or a former member of the band. That was when we decided to call it: "The Skyscrapers"
Not every single former member was able to participate this time, but we really hope we can get everyone together in a future project!
Andre Bastos was in charge of the task of putting all the audio and video together, with the valuable help of the Audio Guru Marcos Naza

No início dos anos 1990, a banda paulistana Skyscraper começou a incluir no repertório de seus shows um cover de um álbum recém-lançado pela banda alemã Helloween. O nome do álbum era “Pink Bubbles Go Ape”, e a música escolhida foi “Number One”
Sendo todos fãs da banda Helloween, os membros do Skyscraper aprenderam a música assim que ela foi lançada e esse cover passou a ser uma das favoritas nos inesquecíveis shows da banda, principalmente no saudoso e legendário bar Black Jack, da zona sul de São Paulo
Quem não se lembra quando o público se juntava a banda na hora do refrão, cantando em coro “Now it is time for happiness”?
A amizade construída nessas 3 décadas desde aqueles tempos permanece até os dias atuais.
Então, quando alguém trouxe a idéia de fazermos um desses “Vídeos da Quarentena” (uma das marcas do ano de 2020) a música escolhida foi “Number One”
Cada um foi se virando como podia para gravar os seus áudios e vídeos. Alguns com equipamento profissional, e outros simplesmente com um celular ou um tablet, porque era o que tinham à mão.
Um fato interessante é que quando começamos esse projeto, não havia relação direta com a banda Skyscraper.
Porém, percebemos que todos os participantes ou eram membros da formação atual, ou das antigas
Foi quando decidimos chamar o projeto de “The Skyscrapers”
Infelizmente não foi possível incluir todos os ex-membros dessa vez, mas esperamos que isso seja possível em um projeto no futuro
Andre Bastos ficou encarregado da tarefa de juntar os audios e vídeos, e contou com a ajuda valiosa do Guru Marcos Naza, para finalizar a parte de áudio
Esperamos que gostem desse trabalho que foi feito com muito amor e do qual estamos muito orgulhosos
Esse vídeo nos aproximou ainda mais e estamos muito felizes de compartilhá-lo com vocês.
