On a more serious note, did you feel uncomfortable using the word “proper” to name about how you feel like you need to talk around white people or in a predominantly white professional environment? Correct me if I’m wrong (please), but I feel like you were struggling with having the language to talk about the white standard of speech, dress, mannerisms, etc. that is imposed and expected on all people, especially Black people and other minorities.

As a white woman who lives in a predominantly black neighborhood, a lot of the little kids want to touch MY hair. I think it’s sweet because they are just inquisitive. BUT THEY are little kids. So it is way less weird i think it would definitely be weird if adults constantly wanted to touch my hair.

I think every race acts differently around different people, When it is just a group of blacks puerto ricans chinese italians russians whatever they behave and speak differently than they do in a mixed race crowd. Nothing wrong with that. There are common backgrounds, experiences and expressions.

I feel like what you said about “white privilege” makes sense. However, it’s not just that. I work in community services and that ideology has been implemented into the policies. I’ve been told that my opinion doesn’t matter because I’m a white person, ive seen that happen to clients from staff, ive seen white people shut down or degraded based on their skin colour and if they complain, they are using their white privilege, not that it actually matters because they wouldn’t do anything anyways. On top of that, we work with people of all colours, who have experiences every disadvantage possible. There have been white people who have been abused their whole lives who are being told they are privileged. This is why it I find it so egregious.

I say this out of love...
Whatever news we're taking in needs to be viewed through the lens of the Gospel. If we're forming opinions purely on thoughts/feelings then our perception could be seriously flawed. If we're too tuned into the loud voice of the crowd then we could very easily miss the still small voice of Jesus. Matthew 12:31 says we're to love our neighbors as ourselves and 1 Corinthians 13 breaks down what love is. As Christians our goal should be to love everyone regardless of their skin color. We should be more concerned about how people view us as believers in Christ rather than what they think of our skin color. At the end of the day, no one's skin color is gonna get them into heaven... only the blood of Jesus can do that.

2 Corinthians 5:17 " Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

John 15:18-19 "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you."
John 18:25 "They hated me without reason"
(I encourage you to read the verses in between. I just don't have to time to type them all out.)

The only approval we should be seeking is the approval of Jesus. His opinion is the only one that really matters. Let's open His book 💕 :)
