Anybody that has ridden both, it's a no-brainer, will agree.

BUT, "better" usually isn't the point of "vintage".😉

My seventies 10-speed DBS is nice because of the steel frame feel. However, I longed for having handle bar shifters on it. Not for speed, but for safety, and riding comfort. I did replace the stone hard brake pads and the shiny, low friction steel rims. To live longer.

I like friction shifting better than indexed. But indexed does shift better when dialed in cause of the Shimano hyperglide teeth.

Absolutely. I love looking at a couple of vintage campy Colnagos I held on to, modern bikes for riding all day long

I love that my 1970s viscount kp krisps works perfectly with its 2x5 downtube shifters, doesnt skip a beat and is an absolute unit i hate having to take my hand off of the bar to change gear so i basically keep it in 2-3 so i can climb and ride flat at decent speed so much so that im tempted to either single speed it or just change it to have modern style shifters

of course he will promote new technology, .. it will promote sales and therefore profit to the ones who build it. that's why thus video is made. for those who ride retro stuff: enjoy your retro happiness and be happy with it 👍🙏🏻😎

Microshift might be better but it is not Nuovo Record.

I use Microshift on my 3x8 road bike, a nice cheap shifter.

Next video. Compare a 25000k bike against one they found at Walmart ...

Depends on what kind of vintage bike you're riding and for what reason. I ride a 40 year old frame with a lot of old and modern parts mixed. I ride it as it's cheap AF and repairing it is super easy. It's not aero at all and I bet I could average 5km/h more, with a modern bike, but I don't race or hunt Strava.

I ride Scott addict rc40 and I kept tarmac sl5 silver rocket for indoor. But I really like the filing on sl5. If I have disc brakes on tarmac I'll ride more on tarmac.

I remember with horror the old friction shifters. On the down tube.. bar end even worse.

The 10 speed Dura ace with downtube shifters I’ve got is crisper than anything else I’ve ridden.

That's hard, cause my microShift experience was trash. The microShift on my daughter's Woom 4 had to be replaced, it was unusable for her.

Then if this technology leap is so great why am I blowing the socks off my riding mates with rim brakes and mechanical campagnolo super record and why do I feel so satisfied my bikes say made in the USA 🇺🇸, made in Italy hmm 🤔

Is it crazy that I prefer downtube friction shifters?

I agree . I’m a fan of vintage bikes for their looks and simplicity and restoration purposes. But yea modern day bikes are so much faster and lighter 😂

Against 20, 30 year old conponent? Yes. But sgainst post 2010's component is different conversation. Campag, shimano, sram from 10years ago still better than lower entry grouppo can offer in 2023
