And a 2:1 ratio (modulator double the carrier) will get you a square-ish wave as well.

Nice demo with the oscilloscope.

This is interesting. I just recently discussed about this subject of a sawtooth in an FM synthesis on one of the youtube videos about creating all sorts of classic synth tracks with digitone.
