The late 1980s was a great time to be alive. There was MTV and Nintendo, but kids were still spending much of their time outdoors. This was a decade full of unforgettable details that would never be allowed to happen in today's world. These things were completely normal, but they would soon all be outlawed. So, let’s take a look back at all the things we did back in 1988 that is now illegal or banned.

Talking about cigarette machines, I was in a Family Dollar yesterday and the woman handling my couple of groceries was waiting on me, and I guess I was just staring at the wall. The older man behind the counter said, "Staring at these?" and pointed to the cigarette display. I laughed and said, 'No, I don't smoke. But I remember when a person could walk up and just pick whatever cigarette they wanted". He said, "I remember when a parent could send their kid in to buy a pack." I said, "I remember when I was that kid".

And now, those cigarette machines were replaced by something else just as bad: lottery machines.

My wife had the tallest hair back in the 80s with the big hoop earings. The big thick thigh belts and the pastel colors made her quite the looker. And the leg warmers! I miss those days for the energy and positivity.

My brother lost control of his 3 wheel ATV and rode it through our sliding door and knocked over our Christmas tree. My mom was thrilled! Happy Holidays!

The part about stopping teens from using cigarette machines is so funny to me. I remember my grandma giving my brother and I a 5 dollar bill to buy her cigarettes. She would tell us to keep the change, which resulted in LOTS of penny candy, a pickle, bomb pops, and chips! The candy store had no issue selling cigarettes to us kids in the 70s. 😂

I remember playing lawn darts while smoking a cigarette and drinking a beer, shirtless without sunscreen. It was just fine.

I remember dialing 0 for the operator and doing "emergency break throughs" when my friends line was busy to long!! Lmao! And also riding in the back of a pick up truck...outside, wind whipping by! So awesome!! I miss it so bad! 😅

I remember calling a supermarket, asking for the meat department and asking the butcher if he had “pigs feet”. Then I would ask “how do you get your shoes on ?” 😂 Long before caller ID. 😂

Also, smoking has been banned from most all public places whereas back then restaurants had a smoking section

Lol, I was telling my son before dinner how we used to make prank calls....all before caller id and cell phones!! That purple Aqua Net can sure brings back memories of my best friend and I getting ready to go out on a Friday or Saturday night...we grew up in the south with no a/c so extra or super hold was a must for those 80's hairstyles, lol....ahhh, those were carefree days...no seat belts, $1 cigarettes from the machine, and a cold bottle of Dr. Pepper...

I remember staying at my grandparents house when I was maybe 5 years old. My grandpa gave me some beer in a little glass. I took a sip and said I didn’t like it. My grandpa laughed. I told my mom that about it 40 years later. She said “OMG! I can’t believe he did that!” It wasn’t a big deal. 😊

When I was a little kid I would stand up in the passenger seat of my Grandmother's car as we went around running errands. Also, my Grandfather had a Charger and I remember laying in the back looking up through the sloped window.

My grandmother, mother and myself used Aqua Net. It’s still sold in stores.
