APIs are the backbone to all the apps and webpages you use. Watch to find out what APIs are, what they do, and how they work.

An API, or application programming interface, enables communication between applications or software. They’re what make a request for an app or webpage -- like typing in a URL or clicking a link -- bring you where you wanted to go.

If you’ve ever visited a webpage from a browser, or shared data between two sites (think, sharing a link from Twitter to Facebook), you’ve interacted with an API. APIs can be private, partner, or public, and provide broadly useful features.

What are the biggest roles APIs play in your organization? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to like this video.
