How to Build an Ant Farm | All in One Concrete Formicarium

preview_player
Показать описание
An in-depth guide on how to make a formicarium (ant farm). In this third episode of the series, we show you how to design an “all in one” using AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete). The end designs offer the ants both a nesting medium, and an outworld (foraging area), the essential components in which an ant colony will need to thrive! Live Australian ant colonies are then introduced to these formicaria. Including...Funnel Ants (Aphaenogaster longiceps), Rainbow Ants (Iridomyrmex sp.) and Toothless Bull Ants (Myrmecia piliventris). Only the simplest of tools and materials are required to follow along. So, we sure hope you do!

I have been watching Ants Australia and Ant Canada and im going to be honest here Ant Canada knows his stuff but I find he doesnt give lots of informative videos like this video he does on the other hand have the voice that you could always listen to. My personal favorite though is Ant Australia cannot stop watching his videos they are great I have learnt so much stuff.

Its 2AM. I have a deadline. Soft whimsical music plays as a charmingly enthusiastic Australian with an adorable lisp invites me to watch his pets mercilessly rip apart their helpless victim and feed it to their ever ravenous brood. Life is good.

The most disturbing thing I learned about ants. Was actually how here, in my country, some caterpillars feed on ant larvae, without being stopped by the ants themselves. The caterpillars secrete a sort of honeydew (I don't know the exact name) to please the ants outside of their nest. The ants walk all over the caterpillar, leaving their scent on it. Afterwards, masked in ant scent, it simply walks into the nest, unharmed by unsuspecting ants, and starts feeding on their larvae.

I don't often leave comments, but just wanted to show my appreciation for your channel! It's my favorite ant-related channel by far. The music you choose is relaxing, your narration is perfect, and the footage is fantastic. Hoping to start ant keeping this spring, and I'll be looking to your videos as guide. I'm looking forward to your next video!

dude you realise you make the best tutorials for ants on youtube. Please upload more often! Many of us are really bored of week after week of Antscanada giving up disney stories. We need more people doing real antkeeping, not a drama tv series!

Well that was a fascination half an hour, thank you for taking the time to show us your hobby. I used to be quite negative towards ants. You have introduced them in an interesting and enthusiastic way. Cheers sir.

Awesome video. I have a block of AAC ready to go. I love these all in ones, I’m thinking of making a small one for my desk at work so I can watch ants while I work.

Wow, you really made some new and bar-raising additions to those nests. With the dry-clay, for making it all so smooth and so on, I love the designs, and ofcource my fave is the bull ants setup ;) Where do you buy the paints you use in all thease setups, please link them if you buy from ebay or something, I love the look <3
