Objects like Revan's helmet become symbols. Symbols made of bravery sacrifice, empathy and justice can never be destroyed as they live on as they made up of something inside one's very soul. That overules one's own need for self preservation and goes against logic. Logic stops one from believing or trying fight the impossible battle, victory. From which the impossible becomes the reality and the story of it becomes legend.

One minor detail, there were council members there on Cathar to capture revan however when they approached to apprehend him, the vision of the brave, true mandolorian descended on them as well leading to council not co much as condone him going to war but letting him go do so
