Yamaha Wabash RT Review Short

While attending the (e)revolution electric bike show in Denver Colorado, I got to connect with Yamaha to learn more about their Wabash RT electric bike. This is a gravel ebike with flared drop bars that works well as a commuter, trekking and touring platform, gravel grinder, or cross country mountain bike. It has taller wheels with lightly studded 700x45c tires, a dropper seat post with suspension travel, and a rigid aluminum alloy fork. Sturdy 12mm thru-axles are used front and rear to improve stiffness and strength for off-road use. Powerful Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. There are two spots to mount bottle cages and other accessories, and mounting points for fenders and a rear rack, but we also saw a goodie bag on the top tube, and camping gear below the handlebar. It comes in one color scheme, three frame sizes, has an integrated headlight, bell, and comes with a three year battery warranty.

Wish I had a bag of money, I would buy one, but I haven't, a great looking bike that a lot of people will buy.

Test drove this against 10 other bikes and this was my top pick ! Really great bike! Was on sale half price BUT still out of my meager range :)

I'm curious how they power the added lights on the "commuter" set-up version. There's a comment below that the controller would not charge a phone.

I've test ridden this bike and love it. I'm trying to decide between this an a Gravital SL by Crow Bicycles. Both are gravel, but this one is much heavier but offers a lot more assistance. Either way, I want to make sure the bike can handle towing a BOB trailer. I prefer that over panniers for bike camping.

Thanks for the review!

With extremely long tour, the detachable battery is a good option. Because you can have extra 4-5 fully charged batteries in the backpack, ready to change it any time.

Cort, I'm looking at my new bike, the bike with which I am going to mark my retirement next year. A range of over 100 miles on minimum assist? That is just what I am looking for in an e-bike and one that I plan to do long-distance bicycle tours with. Thanks!

Will those front fork bosses allow you to mount a front rack? Would love to be able to mount a rack similar to the front rack that Momentum’s Voya E+ 1 uses. Add in the rear rack and fenders and this thing would kill as a weekday commuter weekend adventure bike.

I tried out this bike today - It's creaky around bottom bracket and the motor sports dealer knew nothing to fix it. Caution - Yamaha just does entertain end users .. your dealer is your best bet. Buy it from a cycling shop only

It does NOT charge up your phone. It only MAINTAINS your phone's charge. BIG difference.

Marketing videos don't help much. This particular fellow has some key info incorrect. He mentioned in another video that the usb port on the control unit can be used to charge devices which is not correct. Yamaha needs to do a better job training marketing people for these shows.

This must be the only cheap thing in my country compared to the world I supose. I can buy it for $ 2.727

This is a nice bike for the rare person who actually rides gravel but needs electric assist due I guess to a physical disability? A nice non-electric gravel bike can be had for maybe $2300 and weigh around 21 pounds. This bike is 46 pounds and $4300.

Funny how the interviewer is asking questions and halfway the answers starts explaining himself. Sounds a little bit staged this conversation.
