The courage you have to make video like this is very inspiring and I think this video is worth a 1000 times more than one good idea/build video

That you for sharing the challenging side of the maker experience. It is compounded by the making of video at the same time. It’s almost like serving two masters...the creation of the thing and the making of the video. :-) I too know this pain. Lol. You hesitated a bit, talking about the podcast, when defining who you are. But, indeed you are an inventor!!! I love seeing how your creativity reveals itself in the design process, but also in your commitment to your visual brand, from the hand-written text-on-tape, to the “let glue dry” blocks. :-) Keep going Laura, you are an inspiration to many of us.

When we see makers online, we are presented with a wall of master craftspeople turning out flawless creations. Thank you for admitting that you too are human.

Wonderful, Laura. So nice to have a pause to collect yourself. Your output has been astounding. Learning how to deal with down time is really important. You've done it in a charming and honest way, and I respect and admire you all the more for it.

The path to mastery is a slow one, and it begins when you start not caring about the end goal, and just loving the journey. Awesome video Laura.

Your bad idea video was one of the best yet! Inspiring people just to get started. "It's all about the process" and "thinking with your hands" - love that. Thanks for sharing.

That was really helpful, thank you Laura. I have three kids and a full time job, so my shop time is limited and precious. I sometimes find myself not doing anything because I’d rather not waste time on something that might not work, or not be perfect. I’m going to reflect on your words and not be afraid to spend time on a bad idea.

Sometimes pausing allows you a moment to recharge and refocus. You had a lot going on in the previous week, this week was a chance to decompress. And you still built something 😊

Ideas are often judged way to quickly. Like that's a bad idea. This won't work. Can't do that because, what will others think....
I found out that giving ideas, and especially "bad" ones time to grow. Time to form. Time to transition in a good one. Is a very good idea.
Never dump your ideas to quickly, because an idea that might be a bad idea to someone could turn out to be the best idea you'll ever had (so far).

Thank you Laura for reminding me to stick to my ideas!

I just wanted to drop by and say thank you for this.
Your no-idea idea was great and we look up to you and wait for your next thing, no to put pressure on you but because we love how your mind works and appreciate the work and love you put in your videos. It's that simple.
Thank you, Laura, truly.
Cheers, all the way from the other side of the ocean.

One of the things that I’ve always admired about your philosophy to content creation is that mistakes can be overcome and that struggling doesn’t have to be the end of an idea.

I appreciate this video and all of your videos

The humility that carries in this video, and in all your videos is amazing. Thank you for being open about your maker's block; I think everyone struggles with it at various points, especially now, but sometimes all you need is a spark. Thanks again Laura, and keep on being awesome!

“I don’t need a good idea to enjoy the process” Thanks for reminding me. Let’s go where the joy is.

Too many people on You Tube succumb to burn out from the constant pressure to produce “content”. It becomes a soul killing job, not a spontaneous creative process. Step away for a while and recharge if necessary. Those viewers who are not vampires will understand and welcome you back when you’re ready.

You hit the nail right on the head Laura, it is all about the process. I have always been a very handy person and have saved thousands of dollars in my life thanks to the skills I learned from my father and grandfather. I often watch Youtubers who are less that half my age and almost always pick up great tips and techniques. Thank you for sharing your creative ideas, most of which I will never duplicate but the process and the tips are where the real value can be found.

“Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work.”
-Chuck Close

I’ve been a commercial artist for over 20 years and I know that it’s hard to be creative on demand, every day. When you work for yourself, like you do, it’s even harder because there is no client giving direction and making demands. Creativity works best when you put restrictions on it. Then it’s just problem solving, like your folding bike. So keep finding problems to solve.

And like you say, it doesn’t have to be perfect. Just keep showing up and doing the work. This was definitely something I need to be reminded of, not to let perfection get in the way of progress. Ultimately, it’s about the process, not the product. And when you keep engaging in the process, the ideas will come.

Maybe try taking up something completely new? Then you’ll have lots of new problems and solutions. I’m always picking up new hobbies but I took up leatherworking about 5 years ago and highly recommend it!

It was a really good idea to make this video, so there you go :)
The worst of pressures is the one in your head. Take your time and find your way again. The groove is still there ;)

This reminds me of a talk I recently had with my Dad... I want to be a maker, not a fixer. You are part of the reason why that dream seems like someday, it could be reality. Thank you for this video ✌️
