Flapping Bat Stereogram / Magic Eye

This is my first decent stereogram animation.
Stereograms, or Magic eye illusions, are optical illusions that when you uncross your eyes, look like 3d objects.

The subreddit is a good place to find tips on seeing the illusion:

Alright, if you weren't able to make it out, its a basic bat slowly flapping its wings. Sorry about the flickering background, the randomness is kind of necessary to hide some of the optical artifacts from the generation of the illusion.

As for how I made it:
I first modeled and animated the bat in Blender.
Then, I rendered it with cycles as grayscale depth maps using the compositor with the depth info through a map range node.

Next, I made a simple Bash script that looped through all the depth maps and made them each into stereograms using Pixelfest's open-source stereogram generator Sistem.

Finally, I hopped back into Blender and imported the stereograms as an image sequence in the Video Editor. Then, I just rendered the final video from the sequence.

I hope you found this explanation helpful if you needed it.
And at the very least I hope I could introduce you to a fun optical phenomena.

Hope you guys are having a good life.

Thanks for watching :)

Cool, but the bat doesn't flap its wings, it only goes UPnDOWN, or maybe it's just me. Still, really good.
