The same people who CHOOSE to associate with people who have behaviors like that are the same people who REFUSE to correct/ confront the person.

Yes it's not your job but the bystander effect is real. This is the same reasoning behind society no longer being a village to raise a child in the US. I've had lots of insurance packages, plans usually refuse coverage of 2x a week visits. 2x a week is necessary to correct behavioral problems efficiently.

Do you, no shame, but you're part of the problem is your first reaction isn't to ask them why they feel COMPELLED to do that behavior..

This one was too relatable for me.

I had a friend who would constantly say smaller lies until I eventually caught him. He would admit to the lies I caught but he would keep lying. I asked him why he lies to his friends so much. What he told me was: "I believe that as long as I'm not hurting anyone, lying is completely normal." It was such weird logic because why do you wanna be untrustworthy and make people skeptical about you?

His lies created a lot of awkward moments in the friend group because he told some of us one thing and told the others a completely different story, so we'd always wonder what's true and what's not - assuming there was any truth at all. That lying friend turned out to be pretty toxic in a very passive-aggressive way and eventually we just stopped talking.
