✊🏾In this video I share 10 ideas for activities to celebrate Black History Month in 2024.

🔴 This year’s theme is African Americans and the Arts

⚫️Black History Month focuses on teaching students about the many contributions Black people have shared with the world. This includes focusing on activism, social justice, sports, art, entertainment, literacy, and wellness.

🟡It is celebrated the month of February. The goal is to increase awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion while making students aware of how Black people have contributed to society.

On this day in Black History Month we celebrate Rep. Jamaal Bowman, the first Black man to stop a Congressional vote by pulling a fire alarm

These are great ideas! I like finding new ways to broaden celebrating the month and sharing things me and my friend group can learn.

And since my class is literal baby babies, I like the music idea because I can get them engaged with music from black composers and different genres like Jazz and Blues. The parents learn a little something new and the babies may one day have a distant memory of these songs.

Hi. I teach Spanish, so for February I will be doing Black Hispanics for them to learn- 1) there are black Hispanics 2) See the accomplishments they have done in the USA, such as
Celia Cruz, Miles Morales, Zoe Saldana, Cardi B, Carmelo Anthony, Christina Milian, Gina Torres, Rosie Perez, Tatyana Ali, Gwen Ifill, Rosario Dawson, Lala Anthony, Roberto Clemente, Francisco Lindor (baseball player), Jharrel Jerome, Tessa Thompson, Maxwell (singer), Laz Alonso, Colman Domingo (actor), Soledad O'Brien (news journalist) and Elizabeth Acevedo ( an award winning novelist). We will be doing them with posters. I am also part of an organization called BEAM (Bilingual Education Association of the Metroplex) and we are doing an art contest where students show with their art how their lives are bi-lingual, bi-literate, and bi-cultural. I think that is GREAT!!! When you basically have 2 cultures in your body, people expect you to take a "side". You do not have to take a side, because you are both. You just have to "balance" yourself. Thank you for this video. I enjoyed your ideas.
