GotBot Counts Down: Top 10 Transformers QC Issues

This time I count down the top 10 QC, or quality control, issues facing Transformers collectors. While there were many specific votes for specific characters, votes were lumped together under a particular issue. As you will see, specific character instances are used as examples of the main issue.

A great list. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this list!
I must admit that while I didn’t think of it during the voting period, another two that jumped to mind were 1. Poor quality stickers and 2. Wrong instructions or incomplete instructions (I know you don’t use them). My first siege tetra jet was Hotlink and he was packaged with Siege Megatron’s instructions also Shattered Glass Megs doesn’t come with instructions to form his tank mode (but, thanks to Hotlink I did have them so a win?).

The breaking parts one has been weirdly rampant with Legacy Cores for me, both Iguanus and Skywarps weapon handles have broken and I'm low-key afraid to pick up Hot Rod as a result. Things like Blackarachnias chest peg are ehh because its not necessary to be pegged down but weapon handles are another story

On another note I'm new to the channel and love the content! Fairly new to collecting, got in with WFC, and your channel has rapidly gotten up there with Emgo and Thew for being my favourite to binge

@17:55 -- Clear/Translucent plastic is an issue, depending on where it's used. J-7 (RiD 1.0 Rapid Run, Takara version) from my JRX set used painted clear plastic for the panels that flank his chest/engine nose in robot mode. (From this point, I'll refer to them as "arm pits".) Anyhow, the hinge holding the left arm pit onto J-7 suffered a significant crack, making it risky to transform him often. (Fortunately, I had a Hasbro Rapid Run -- though the American bullet trains' windows often qualify for that missing paint category.) Another RiD contender with this issue are both American versions of Prowl (Mach Alert). A lot of Prowls start missing one or more of their Lambo doors (hip kibble in robot mode) after the _socket_ joint develops a crack.

Netflix bumblebee showed up missing a ski, astrotrain showed up missing a wheel and I got a slumpy galvatron. This could a been a bingo card, man. Lol. Good video. I've experienced a lot of these and they're definitely something to be aware of if you're a collector.

Great Top 10. I couldn't see which direction this would go with the votes so this was great to watch. And just found out today there is a FB group that does sales on TF parts, I need to investigate more but you may know of some already.
Oh as far as tabs on the roof of Skids, yours and Ninjabill's review gave us the solution to handle that, and I thank you for that.

This is an absolutely great list! Yes, I've experienced many of these over time. My first negativve experience with clear plastic happened with the SS Sideswipe. Good God, that thing is nearly ALL clear! The hood section broke off of the windsheild section, so I have had to redesign him a little, and he doesn't transfrom anymore. I painted him completely chrome, he's kinda bad ass looking now lol

This was a fantastic countdown list GotBot!! I'm surprised that loose parts was higher on the list from missing parts, but I guess loose parts is more common then missing parts. Will you do a countdown list of the "Transformers with the worst names?" Keep on being amazing.

Fantastic countdown once again my friend. Thanks for the shoutout. That was a problem that should have NEVER left the factory, much less made into packagiing, shipped across the waves and into store shelves. As a collector I think I have experienced all of these at one point or simultainiously even.

Good list, bro. There shouldn't be one...yet here it is...with more than 10 glaring issues even!
These days, buying toys has become a gamble (or 'a box of chocolates' as Forest Gump's mum put it)...we really don't know what we're (not) going to get! ;-)
The most common QC-related complaint on nearly all newer TF products (including MPs) is improperly cut sprue points. Sometimes there are visible plastic flashes; and at other times there are gaping holes/crevices. These days, I dedicate good time to meticulously go over my fresh stuff with reading glasses under proper light using suitable tools to remedy them (where possible) by trimming & sanding. This was not so rampant during the G1 days and is a clear sign of dwindling quality. Sadly, sometimes the designers fail to consider where the cut puts will end up; and this can end up marring the look (and by extension overall quality) of the toy.
As for my vote, it was the seeping of rubbery plastic into the hard plastic it is connected to via a metal pin (the unsaid catalyst). Many examples exist globally, but some that I have personally experienced include Weirdwolf's canopy breaking, Generations Wreck-Gar' bike handles crumbling, the softer nosecone tip of Classic seekers pulling off the solid plastic that surrounds it, the horn of TF Prime Cliffjumper (RID) & GDO retool breaking off the hard plastic that locks it in place; the treads of all ROTF Voyager Bludgeon mould mates (Cloud Megs, Banzaitron, GDO G2 Megs, Timelines Gigatron), the rubbery wings of TR/LG Mindwipe/Bat Convoy (and perhaps even the Crossover Dracula); among others. These are globally renowned occurrences with matching discussion treads & case sharing. This issue will also probably be the bane of the Studio Series Wreck-Gar mould in the coming future sadly, with its soft rubber handles. (After all, even our rubber car tyres have an expiry date. And those are made to be far hardier. The rubber on toys makes them 'timebombs' of sorts.)
Handy tip to remember (like never leaving batteries in a toy for too long) is to pack rubbery bits in a way that they do not come in contact with/touch harder plastics for extended periods. The chemical reaction (gradual plasticizer effect) that takes place ends up warping the former & searing the latter. I've unfortunately learnt some solid lessons first-hard over 4 decades of collecting.
Stay awesome, GotBot!

My Earthrise Scorpnok's Lord Zarak headmaster came with two left thights. Thankfully it is still transformable and it will probably stay forever in head mode for now. I cant imagine what missing a part would feel like, so I could had more against.

No, Torca had GPS as well. The piece that held on the tail broke off on many figures. It was frustrating because he was one of my favorite Beast Wars figures.

@ 11:05 I didn't consider GPS a QC issue because the problem doesn't present itself until *years* after production. My personal GPS foils were Torca and some pull-back tank thing I won at Libertyland.

Wow, honorable mentions. I can't list all the figures i've had problems with friction hinges. From Springer to some studio series bayverse figures to leader slug.

Great list, experienced all of them and it really puts me down when they happen.

Regarding pieces breaking off of the toy, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of it was indeed caught. It may have been cheaper to release the toy as it was than redesign it. Could be the budget wasn’t big enough to stretch that far.

Not excusing anything. In fact, that would actually make the issues not only bad, but offensively so.

Yeah tolerances is by far the most rampant issue. It even affects a few MP's.

I don't know if it's a QC issue,
But I am sick and tired of having to purchase upgrade sets for every frigging bot that comes out!
Grimlock without a sword
The back end / feet of Ratchet or Ironhide sticking out where doors should be.
The huge hollow gaps in the legs, arms, backs to cut back on plastic costs.

It seems like that if I were a paranoid fellow,
Perhaps Hasbro owns one or more of these upgrade companies,
Knowing that they can do what ever they want with the official product
Because kids don't know any better
And they can make even more $ off of the collectors.

I'M SICK OF IT!

I'll keep doing it though.

(If we all had half a mind between us, we should boycott until it's not an issue,
But this will never happen.
We would have to go without a transformers fix for months.
Not possible. )
