I like to keep my tools pretty minimal, so all i really use is my fingers, whatever spoons are lying around and my tweezers (basically replaces tongs).

My rules when plating up:
Be playful when plating up
Lay emphasis on the star of the dish
Focus on height when plating
Don't overcrowd your plate
Every element on the plate has its function
Try to combo matching flavors and matching visuals

I don't even cook a lot, but I love food and more important the cultural and historical aspects behind it. And one of my most hated things is when people get accused from "stealing" a culture's food or appropriating it. As you just said, "no-one owns food." As someone with Hungarian ancestry, it's cool to me that Hungary's neighbors have their own versions of Goulash and even here in America all over the country people have their own versions.

Okay my problem with dainty plating is that the food goes cold so fast, so while it looks good it never tastes the best especially with something like steak which imo should be served piping hot. Works great with dishes that are served cold or room temp tho

I only ask that, if your sauce is brown, please limit the plop and smear across the plate. Not appetizing, from experience 😊
