another tip for family gameplay: when my sim has a toddler the trait is completely random. when they become a child i randomize the trait until it reflects one of the traits of the parents (so a potential of 6 different traits or less depending on if the parents have adult-specific traits). when they become a teen i randomize the trait until they have a trait that is *not* shared with either parent, because this is an age where a lot of people branch off and try to figure themselves out. then when they become an adult i randomize for either a new trait or a shared trait with the parents depending on how close they were. i think this makes the game a little more realistic but also makes it more interesting because you're forced to work with randomized traits

Okay but the last one was soo freaking clever.. I realised that I, in fact have not put myself in my sims position and therefore the sims i played with would be all the same. Must try this method for sure!!!

When giving a makeover I like to have a reason, like my Sim had a breakup and stopped caring about their looks or they got an f u cool new style depending on personality, or a new corporate job means a new haircut and more mature outfits, they met a cool new friend and are influenced by their style etc.

I've always played rotationally and never get bored. I play with my seasons on 14days and play each household for a season. I've set my worlds up with unique features and if my sims want to visit, they have to go on vacation to that world. Sometimes they love the world so much they pack up and move. I try to think like my sims and often let sentiments or their emotions guide my decisions. Even the random phone calls I work into their stories - sometimes they end up being friends with sims I would never have thought of. When the pop-ups happen in game- the ones that tell you the outcome of your choice, I roll a die. My sim gets fired sometimes, or loses job performance. I really try not to focus too much on achievements - like promotions, grades and skills, unless I think my sim would think that important. Sorry for the essay, I love sharing ideas and hearing how other people like to play 😊

I completely agree with slowly building up your house, more realistically. Whenever I give my self an awesome house right off the bat, I get bored after the new wears off.

Also I'm horrible at making my sim act how they actually would. I'm always keeping their moods perfect, and if I have an evil Sim I end up feeling too bad to make them actually act evil 😝

Putting the lifetime at "long life" has really helped me woth playing one family for a long time.it helps me bring up my kids in a way that I get to figure out their personality fully and see what they will want to do and be like as an adult. When babies become todlers I randomize the trait and base their whole life off that. Except for homework. I'm obsessive that all my kids do their homework. Idk why. I could never finish my homework as a kid maybe that's why. Trying to make up for it I guess🤷🏻‍♀️

To make my game more interesting, I started to write down a possible plot for my sims' story, but, instead of deciding everything that's going to happen, I roll a dice to have a random outcome.
I tried to play rotationally, but I got bored of it because I used to play two days with each family and I didn't have the time to do anything I wanted. Now, I prepare a plot for each family and play with them until the plot is over, and I'm actually having a lot of fun.

You hit on this a little bit, but I would like to expand it. Don’t ignore traits and moodlets. I think every body wishes moodlets had a bigger mechanical impact on the game, but that doesn’t mean you have to ignore them. Actively avoid negative moodlets even if they don’t carry consequences. Also if your sim hates children, actively avoid children even if there aren’t really any gameplay consequences. Treat the Sims like a role-playing game. Play a person and make the choices that person would make regardless of gameplay mechanics

I also take a lot of photos with/of my Sims, even without the Mosccino Pack. Buy a camera where you can make bigger photos, for every Sim in your household one camera or switch one to every inventory after time if you don't have enough Simoleons.
They haven't even to pose for this, when (for example) a grandma plays with their toddler grandkid, take a photo of them with another Sim, it will be a great memory. After a time you'll have a great Album of their live 😄📸🎞

Or another thing i did recently: play with divorced parents, and let the kids move every week to the other parent. Maybe they have stepsiblings and they hang out with them in San Myshuno, after a week they go back to their single mom in Brindelton Bay.

Playing with roommates more often! Like literally moving a sim or two in. I think a lot of us get stuck in the finding a soulmate to move in but a roommate can add a lot of good drama or not!

I love these ideas! I really like utilizing Parenthood. The punishment, the curfew, the character values

Legacy and rotational play seems to complicated for me (but sounds really cool!). Anyone else get overwhelmed playing the game sometimes, and bored other times?? LOL it really is like real life 😂😂

I like the idea of adding in families and houses from the gallery. However, I sometimes find them incredibly boring. They are often very 'perfect' houses and sims. So I do my own version now - my own npc's, if you will.

When I create my own sims, I like to give them at least one physical 'flaw', and one negative character trait. And I try to play their lives true to their traits. I give them multiple outfits as well. This makes it sooo much more interesting. Other times, I just randomise the traits/gender/other thing, and create the sim based on that - you get some pretty fun combinations. I write a little back story for every household.

I also build them a house, based on their personality. For example, I am very fond of Monroe, the crazy clockmaker, and his house that is filled with clocks. Or lady green, who is obsessed with collecting frogs, who live in a house that sort of resembles a frog. And who can be without Donny Zest, Johnny's much more rich, successful and handsome rockstar twin brother? (who hates him)

What a lot of people liked about the previous games was the craziness and chaos. And yet, many of us fall into the trap of trying to make things perfect, myself included. Why is that?

i absolutely love having routines for my sims, especially with couples and small families. right now i have a couple in my game who have a toddler and the parents wake up around 6 every morning, brush their teeth, and wake up the toddler for breakfast. then they put him in his high chair and feed him breakfast while they eat their own food. it’s super cute. i’ve also been playing with rotational gameplay recently and it’s so fun!

I totally agree with the makeovers. I always give my sims quite a few makeovers while they’re in uni (which I make almost all of them do). It really helps me to get to know them and to develop their personality!

P.S. Such a great video!!

when my sims grow up, i ALWAYS randomize their traits! its fun trying to think of how the traits would piece together to create a unique personality and making decisions through their shoes like you suggested! it makes legacies so much more interesting and realistic. a child might have the nicest most perfect and caring parents ever but still turn out to be an evil criminal haha its so much more fun when you're crossing your fingers hoping for a good trait to roll hahahha!

All of these tips are true to keeping the game interesting! That’s why I find it hard to NOT play the sims 4. It’s still good in its own way. Lovely video and voice as always 🤍

I put myself and my fiance into the game and we have had a small child. Then I realized that my three adult kids would want to know their siblings. I've made an apartment lot and replicated their places there. One of my daughters has an upstairs apartment and the other lives on a ground floor. My son lives in a little backyard cottage. I was able to fit it all plus their pets. Now I've been doing play testing and made some changes for gameplay reasons I realized my daughter and my daughter's roommates need their boyfriends. I am having a blast. I'm going to do rotational gameplay. It's really fun doing things the way they would, giving them jobs they would want etc. I also used cheats to put them where they actually are in life. They are midway through careers and already have relationships with each other. When I started up the lot, my daughter and her best friend immediately started chatting. The pets love their owners but need to get to know the other people etc. I am in the process of tweaking the lot so they have more activities their like a pool and workout area. This is really fun

I’ve been slowly changing every single venue and home in each world in the Sims but I’m customizing each one by hand or from scratch! It’s been taking a long time but so worth it!
