The fact that he can teach you even how to make your developer environment is priceless, Mind you Being a web developer is not about just building web applications that we use every day such as Facebook but think of the knowledge as a tool that you can use at your disposal to customize a solution.
Now with a typical project with Services which are stateless libraries of functions that you can use from anywhere in your Sails app.
For example, you might have an EmailService which tidily wraps up one or more utility functions so you can use them in more than one place within your application.
and Hypothetically, one could create a service for:


Sending an email as mentioned
Blasting tweets.
Retrieving data from a third party API.
