was there an objective criteria used to base the net worths of kpop idols? did you do your own research, instead of picking up information on the internet that is already seven years old? it is well known that kpop idols get most of their income from album sales, concert tours, and merchandise sales. their income is further supplemented by streaming income, advertising & promotions fees, and other professional talent fees for acting in movies or dramas, or appearing on t.v. shows. kpop idols who write, compose, and produce their own songs get long-term royalties for copyright ownership. so let us take the example of BTS members. (1) three of their world tours covering the years 2017-2019 and 2021-2022 earned a total revenue of US$407, 650, 940. this is a matter of public record and can be validated online. assuming deductions of taxes and expenses, each BTS member would probably get a share of US$21.8-M for these world tours. (2) since 2013, BTS has sold about 40-M albums, the most among kpop idols. again, this is a matter of public record. assume that members get a cut of about US$5 per sale, that means they would get about US$200-M for their album sales, or about US$28.6-M per member. (3) now, remember that each BTS member also were given shares of hybe, which in 2023 was worth at least US$12.1-M each. (4) and also in 2023, each BTS member received a down payment of US$15.8-M as bonus from hybe for renewing their contract. (5) add US$21.8-M + US$28.6-M + US$12.1-M + US$15.8-M = ? it would add up to A NET WORTH OF AT LEAST US$78.3-M FOR EACH BTS MEMBER in 2023. (6) this does not yet include the album sales from each member's solo efforts -- and it is important to note that each member has sold more than 1-M copies of their own solo albums. (7) streaming income is not factored in as well. as of november 2023, BTS streaming numbers across all digital service platforms reached more than 71-B, the most among kpop groups. that is according to chartmaster, a platform dedicated to streaming results. the solo streaming numbers of each individual are not counted as well – jimin has 4.4-B, jungkook 5.7-B, for example. (8) the net worth estimate does not yet include merchandise sales, or income from the various global advertising endorsements made by BTS as a group, or the advertising & promotions fees of each of the BTS members who had brand endorsements as solo artists. (9) the estimate does not also include copyrights for songs written, composed, and produced by members like RM [218 songs], suga [169 songs], and j-hope [139 songs]. (10) the estimate also does not include the share of suga from this 2023 concert tour, which grossed US$57.1-M. less taxes and expenses, it is possible for suga to pocket about US$21.4-M from his concert tour, which would make him the richest BTS member with a possible net worth of US$99.7-M. (11) these estimates are not without basis, as assumptions were taken from available public record, compared to what is presented in the video above. the fact that hybe is now the biggest and most profitable music agency in korea [bigger in shareholder value and annual sales than the other "big three" kpop agencies combined], with the chairman bang sihyuk estimated by forbes magazine to have a net worth of at least US$1.7-B, is revelatory. and as everyone knows, hybe became big because of BTS's enormous success in the global stage.
