Buff traits give blue icons and debuff traits give red icons. Some base traits (like birthdate) give white ones. If you are enthralled by Xiangshu then it will give a buff trait with red icons.
The calculation formula of initial circle is Abs(blue-red) * (5-partner numbers). At 3:57 your team have 9 reds and 5 blues, partner number is 4. So Abs(blue-red)=4, times (5-4) is your actual circle, 4. But if you go to compete alone (Partners won't help you in compete) you will get 6*(5-0)=30 circles. This also works in battle. Having more circles than opponents makes you prepare better, move swifter, etc.

For each person, the circle they contribute is white+Abs(blue-red)-3*gray. If blue>red then its blue, blue=red they will contribute nothing(or if there are many gray that inhibits other colors), blue<red its red. Gray circle can be seen if they are captured, pregnant, or women cant pregnant. The actual sword and shield icon for everyone is same. For example, you have 5 white circles, 2 red and 1 blue. So your total circle is 5+Abs(1-2)-0, the game will show you have 6 red. When you are pregnant, it is 5+Abs(1-2)-1*3, 3 red circles.

The question value you can answer is based on how much you have read and practiced on that related book. All NPC with some level of base skill will read book but you don't, that's why you lose. However, if you have 30 circles at the beginning, meaning you can question him first, you may have hope: Although you did not read book, you base skill is 105. Your foe read some book but his base skill is 70. What's more, he is only Tier VI, meaning he has no knowledge on high tier book like you. So you can ask him about high tier book(on the right side) don't drag the scale, there is a huge chance that he can't answer it but you can.
This method don't work if opponent is high tier or have higher base skill than you.

Pick pocket success chance: if footwork (轻功) talent + attainment > 50 * rank of item stealing (t9=1, t1=9) +100 * number of red heart (guard), then successful, otherwise unsuccessful


Arrange marriage:
The art a person can teach you is limited by their own rank.
When you marry the girl off, you should be targeting high rank officers.


Ranshan Skills:
Yes you are right, you don't get element buffs, because your element is currently fire only
Also, ranshan focus on internal dmg, and while sword manor is good at external dmg.
