Kingfisher chicks
After 24 days of incubation, all seven kingfisher chicks hatched out over a 24-hour period spanning two days, April 29-30th.
Dad anxious to please
And as soon as the first chick emerges from its shell, its kingfisher dad is keen to provide. Watch as he brings in a tiny-sized fish - just right for such a small new beak - within hours of its hatching. However these minute creatures are not yet ready to swallow their first meals.
Male kingfisher indecisive
This male kingfishers also helps to brood the newly hatched chicks - but he can't quite decide if he ought to stay put and brood or go out and fetch more food andthen, when all of a sudden the urge to get more food overcomes him, he knocks a chick right over in his rush!
Male vs females
Kingfishers are solitary birds and normally only come together to raise chicks. Watch the female recoil when the male turns up with yet more food for their chicks!
Chicks develop
Kingfisher chicks hatch out blind and featherless. Subscribe to this playlist to be notified of my next film from this nest, in which they grow their first feathers.
