3 years later and your video saved the day! It’s 1:10 am and I just got home and my 2018 XC90 sunroof would retract when I try to close it. It wouldn’t reach the closed position. So I just found your video and held down the switch like you did… and it closed and stayed closed! Thanks!

Thanks a lot! Worked perfectly on a 2016 XC90. It had previously cost me a diagnostic fee and 1 hour of labor (obscene, thank you Momentum Volvo of Houston for ripping me off for 30 seconds of work).

I think the problem stems from a low battery or a disconnected battery that causes the calibration to be lost. In my case the switch just wasn't behaving properly and I had the hardest time to get the moon roof to fully open or to even close. To reset I started the engine (might work with setting the ignition to position 1), then held down the switch to its first position (not the auto-close #2 position) as shown in the video until it went through the entire open & close cycle of both the screen and moon roof. It then started working exactly as expected. I had also previously re-charged the battery as we're driving much less lately thanks to this pandemic, which probably caused the loss of calibration.

Is it the same procedure with the volvo XC40? Mine got stuck open. Left it overnight and in the morning it worked, but only manually, not automatic open/close.

Hi i have 2016 xc90 and when i press the button to close the sunroof shade automatic it does close until half way and it stops, so if i hold the button to continue closing all the away it will do it but not on automatic any idea what it could be

Hello Leno, Am I missing something here? if I hold switch downward, it wont do anything. Normal operation for my 2016 xc90, pressing downward closes the curtain and the roof. Mine just wont close and open automatic. it just stopped working. need to hold and manually operate it. Thanks.

This solved my issue on a 2016 XC90.

The problem I had was that the sunroof ”bounced” back open when I wanted it to close.
