Oh man I had this and loved it! The mud was quite a bit thicker than traditional slime. It also had a very distinctive smell. 😀

Oh man, found this video trying to tell my wife about this toy. I loved it, the slime had a gritty texture if I remember correctly. It wasn't so wet feeling as the normal slime. So cool you found this.

My younger brother had this. If I remember, the “slime” was thicker then the traditional stuff. It would sort of hold it’s shape so you could dig into it and you could also use the truck to leave tracks in the “mud”. The compound also had a grit to it. Like it was mixed with a sort of sand or something. I’m pretty sure it was also brown in color. Not the traditional Mattel slime but more of a thicker compound. I know my brother loved this play set.

I had this playset when I was younger. In fact, that's how I found your video. This very set came to me in a dream last night for some reason. So, I researched the toy and your video was on the top of the list. The memories of this set are still fresh. I remember that I begged my mother to buy it for me back in the late 80's at Kmart. She didn't want to get it initially because of the "slime." However, the compromise was that if she bought it, I could only play with it on kitchen table or a t.v. tray which had a recessed dining area for spills.

However, like most of the "slime" toys back then, once the slime dried out, that was it. The "slime" toys back then didn't have replacements in stock or give you instructions on how to maintain the product.

Regardless, this toy was a lot of fun and was a cool concept at the time. The toys of the 80's and 90's were over the top and very imaginative, unlike most toys today. I have seen a come back from some of classics like He-man for example.

Kinetic Sand has a product similar to this called: Dino Dig. It comes with the Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus, but also includes a Stegosaurus as well. The pit comes with two colors of Sand and the bones can be assembled and played with unlike in the Hot Wheels Set. It does not come with the treasure, crane or the 4x4 truck, but those items can be found easily if any of you would like to recreate the many adventures the Mud Pit offered. The great news is that the Kinetic Sand doesn't dry out!

In closing, thank you for showcasing this awesome toy, it was great to see it again!

I had this. The mud compound was not really slime. It was much thicker. Was still one of my favorite playsets right there with the horde Slime Pit

I still have mine from when I was a kid and the box it came in. The mud that came with it was definitely thicker and not slimy at all. Awesome play set to have, it brings back memories.

Now this is a toy I could get behind. As a kid I did not know of its existence but had I, I probably would have asked for it just because of overall look and of course the slime/mud lol. Im a sucker for realism. Thanks again for another great review Dan. Have a Happy Halloween and thanks for a great #SlimeAwareness month!

I still have this set. It was my favorite! And the slime it came with was so cool, when you drove the truck onto it the tires would leave it’s tracks on the slime. Nothing like the junk slime they sell now!

I loved this toy when I was a kid. Slime and dinosaurs. YEAH!! I do remember the slime being thicker than other slime products. And I think it got hard quick.

This is a great retro precursor to the slimecano set I had which is my all time favorite slime toy

Had this set and loved it!!! Like others have said it was thicker than slime. It had some texture to it, it was almost like thick oatmeal if the actual oats were really small.

I had this toy back in the 80s. I remember my parents only let me use the mud once, then they promptly threw the mud away. I was only 4 years old at the time but I remember the mud being black, and a bit more like a clay feeling than slime.

Ok you did something rare. Showed me a Hot Wheels set I had NEVER seen before or had any clue it existed.
I had 3 main "hobbies".
#1)Marvel Legends #2)Star Wars figures 3.75 and 6 inch & my favorite...
#3)Hot Wheels. I collect mainly the cars but I do have some sets. The 4 lane and 6 lane raceway are EPIC and with enough extra orange track OR Sizzlers track as I found out, you can make a awesome downhill raceway. My PRIDE & JOY is my
🐍Snake🐍 and Mongoose Drag Racing set. It's the one that comes with 2 Funny Cars not VW buses(although those are sweet too).
Sorry I veered off on a tangent. This set you showed is nice. If I do see a set I like I need it to obviously have either a racing option or have diorama possibilities. First off I love 4x4's and the Truck that is included I would LOVE to find. All my old toys were either tossed out or were stolen out of a storage locker. My Sports cards with a Wayne Gretzky ROOKIE card was just one of many high $$$$ cards. Set's like these can get pricey depending on the obvious issues...#1) condition #2) popularity. Now this one isn't licensed by say a Jurassic Park theme the Dino pit is close. My point is I have to hunt this down...lol. At least the truck. Back then the cars had a bouncy suspension, so I'd LOVE to see what a 4x4 truck would do. Boing boing boing. Great video BTW. I've been binge watching this New Years Eve. Just got a real kick in the head from the doctor. Terminal COPD/emphysema. So my "hobbies" are kaboshed for now. But that gives me time to hunt...lol. Thank you and Merry Christmas & A
Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family. Your a very lucky man. Thank you again....🎅⭐🎄🎁😃🚕🚗🚙

This was a great set had it as a kid and the “mud” was very thick. I recently dug it back out and tried kinetic sand as a substitution and it works great!

Damn, Dan. You got me excited that this was rereleased. My son would love this. I had this as a kid. I remember the mud was really thick. I would not call it slIme at all. It was so thick, that you could make tracks on it with the 4x4.

I also had this set as a kid. The original mud was very thick and held shape- very similar to play doh and was coffee brown colored. As someone said it had a very distinct smell. Not the kind of smell Mattel slime that came with He-Man or a mad scientist toys.
