The Singapore's Police Force says there is an emerging trend of foreigners committing credit card fraud targeting local retailers. Since Nov 4, there have been at least 10 victims whose
card details were stolen by the scammers to buy high-value goods. In total, the unauthorised transactions are worth more than S$100,000.

I handled a lot of credit card. I've always checked the name of the credit card with their ID or passport. If unmatched, I'll decline.

Always review your credit card statements before paying the bill.

Should be responsability of the banks to improve their fraud prevention instead of putting responsibility on store owners.

Good that Singapore's media doesn't have any qualms about showing the faces of those arrested. None of that "Innocent until proven otherwise" hypocrisy where criminals seem to have more rights than victims. This alone isn't enough but it does help to discourage some from committing crimes. Unless if they are fine with neigbours, relatives and friends knowing they had been arrested.

Went thru the exact same issue a just over a week ago. Multiple transactions that weren't mine were being made and had DBS cancel my cards and replace them ASAP. Luckily the fraud disputes didn't take longer than 3 days to get back the lost money. I didn't even report my case to the police and now I see this. Not an isolated incident then. Scum of the earth these people.

Doesn't this show shops should not ban cash?

*The PRCs are utter nuisance in SG. Not sure why our government doesn't impose any visa restrictions.*

The penalty should be much higher as a deterrent, and retailers should train their staff to check passport or IC.

Dont tell me again the PRCs enter into sg by using 30days visa free entry.

In the good old days you need to sign to make payments and the shop should verify the signature if it matches that of the card.
But these days no one ask you to sign anymore, even if they do they hardly check the signature.

I do believe that our credit card details might be sold or leaked by online vendors. I had someone in Spain use my credit card to pay for his/her Netflix account.

Nice that they get caught in Singapore

This is no new trend. I faced this in India as well. My card was hacked online and attempts to make online purchases, probably requesting a refund to their wallets to make purchases or redeem the money to their accounts. It's very sophisticated & dangerous. For some amongst us, it's a very heavy burden.

The phrase "a fickle life" refers to a candle, for when it is burning, it is bright and full of energy but it can go out in the blink of an eye.
