Bonsai from a Thyme plant?!

These Thyme plants are widely available in supermarkets and garden centers - but do they make nice Bonsai trees? In this video Oscar styles this cheap thyme (about 10 USD) into a little Bonsai tree. A lot is pruned of, but the tree is strong and healthy and will do just fine. It is a first step in its progression towards a bonsai - and we'll show the updates of this little tree on our YouTube channel!

Trying different herbs as bonsai has always intrigued me. I love the idea of pruning my tree and using the cuttings for culinary purposes

Ola! You have an international audience well done for an excellent tutorial. Is it possible to always state what season it is when you do a video? Months of the year don't help as we are potentially in different hemispheres

Very Nice! Thyme also flowers, really curious what this little tree will look like in full flower. I have my own thyme bonsai styled as a willow.

I thought this was a Hokkaido or seiju elm when I first glanced at it. I liked and subscribed... Nice job dude

Hmm I was going to choose juniper for my first bonsai, but this looks easier

It looks brilliant!

May I ask you that when do you start fertilizing it and how? Liquid or solid fertilizer?

For the trunk to have developed so thick the thyme must have been growing for some time and yet it was still very short in height. What was the age of that thyme?

I'd like to know how to get to a plant like that. Even though small in the pot, it has really thick branches comparing with the ones you can get here.

Anyone from Ireland knowing a nursery where you could get something with that quality?

Beautiful, I should try this! Is it common to find a Thyme in a garden center with the branches so thick?
Thank you

Why are you putting it straight into a Bonsais pot? Im new to bonsai and I thought you put it much later in abonsai pot so It can grow much faster and stronger into the desired shape.
But I think it already Looks really good
