불붙은 '재검표' 작업... 힐러리 측도 동참 선언
Moving over to the United States.
Hillary Clinton has decided to join the movement for recounts in Wisconsin and other key states.
Still, her campaign says it has no plans to contest the election, no matter the outcome.
Kim Ji-yeon reports.
Hillary Clinton's campaign team says it will join efforts to call for recounts in several states, though it also acknowledged that it had found no evidence of vote manipulation.
Clinton made the announcement Saturday, a day after the state of Wisconsin began recount proceedings based on a petition from Green Party candidate Jill Stein.
Stein claims there were irregularities in the results for three states -- Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania -- where president-elect Donald Trump defeated Clinton by slim margins on his way to victory.
"We are standing up for a voting system that we deserve, that we can have confidence in, that has integrity and security, and that we know is not subject to tampering, malfeasance, hacking and so on."
Stein's recount campaign has received widespread support on a crowdfunding page,... which was launched to pay for the filing and legal fees that recounts would require.
The fundraising target has been raised twice to four-million and finally seven-million U.S. dollars,... after the original two-million-dollar target was reached on the first day.
In response, Donald Trump accused Stein of collecting money to "fill her coffers" by exploiting voters disappointed about the election.
Trump said in a statement: “The people have spoken and the election is over, and as Hillary Clinton herself said on election night, in addition to her conceding by congratulating me, ‘We must accept this result and then look to the future.'"
In theory, if Clinton were to win the recount in all three states, it could alter the outcome of the presidential election, though expectations of that are fairly low.
The deadline for the recount petition in Wisconsin was Friday, while the deadline for Pennsylvania is Monday and Michigan's is Wednesday.
