I don't think it was really all that hard to follow... Star Trek and Star Wars are both fictional properties, but they have touched millions of lives almost if not more so than any ancient religion has. Every time I watch Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, I cry when Boromir dies, because while the character isn't real, the emotions I feel for his redemption and fate are. So talking about Superman, especially if you have the honor of being a _real character_ in a comic book, as if he's real is totally logical.
