Kokanee Fishing 101 Stampede Reservoir California Trolling methods for catching Landlocked Salmon

Stampede Dam and Reservoir are located on the Little Truckee River immediately below the mouth of Davies Creek and approximately 8 miles above the confluence of the Little Truckee and Truckee Rivers. The lake elevation is 5,949' at the lakes highest. Open year-round (frozen during winter). A surface area of approximately 3,340 acres at full reservoir storage with 25 miles of shoreline. Fishing season is year-round, with ice fishing during the winter, however the lake does not freeze solid every year. Available species include kokanee salmon, rainbow, brook, brown and lake (mackinaw) trout. The target today was Kokanee, a landlocked Sockeye Salmon, believed to exist in freshwater lakes for roughly 15,000 years. Kokanee are highly sought after fish for their acrobatic fights and high quality table fare. This was a solo fishing trip. I did use some still frame pictures shot by professional photographer and my friend, Scott Thompsom of Scott Shots Photography from the following day. Fishing with Mack's Lures, 4Fin downrigger weights, on the Thunderjet boat. It was fun to shoot a video focused more on information regarding the fishery.
