How to create a new Self-Concept to reach your Goals & unlock your Full Potential✨

It’s almost the new year and the best time to set new goals & resolutions!✨ However, a lot of the time we struggle to reach these goals and never actually change… which is why the answer isn’t in chasing goals but in reshaping *who you are*.

In this video, I’ll show you how to create a new self-concept and use it to reach your goals & true potential.

Your *self-concept*—the collection of beliefs you hold about yourself—dictates your actions and, ultimately, your reality. It’s often shaped unconsciously, influenced by your environment and experiences, and very rarely in your best interest. But here’s the good news: you can change it.

Imagine you were given your dream life today. Would you be able to keep it? Probably not, because you haven’t yet become the person who can. If you want to change your life, you need to embody the qualities of the person who already lives that life.

Picture your dream life and compare it to where you are now. What qualities— e.g. discipline, confidence, resilience—do you need to develop? Write it down✒️

Next, understand how your self-concept is created: beliefs → thoughts → actions → experiences → beliefs → and so on… your self-concept consists of the collection of these beliefs you hold about yourself. To change it, you want to intervene in this loop at two points: Thoughts & Actions

1. You can introduce new thoughts through affirmations; think of affirmations that relate to the qualities you’re focusing on developing in yourself. But keep in mind, affirmations alone won’t change your self-concept— they need to be followed by action.

1. Now you want to collect positive experiences to reaffirm the new beliefs you want to create, eg. if you want to develop confidence, you need to prove this through experience. You collect positive experiences by gradually stretching your comfort zone, instead of breaking it which can lead to negative experiences and more insecurities/limiting beliefs.

→ Write a big list of all the things you currently struggle to do that are a part of your dream life & relate to the qualities you want to develop. Example: confidence— wearing a cute outfit, talking to a stranger, going to more social events, taking an opportunity, etc…

Then, re-arrange the list from easiest to hardest and start with the first action, do this until it becomes easy, and then move on to the next, and repeat. This is how you gradually grow your comfort zone & collect positive experiences → positive beliefs → positive self-concept.

Also, think what habits, routines, and mindset does your “dream self” have? Focus on these to create your new self-concept. Remember, your current self is a product of habit, and habits can be rewritten.

This year, when creating your goals & vision boards, instead of focusing on your dream life, focus on your dream self-concept. You can become this with the right mindset, affirmations, and intentional actions. So, I hope this helps, it’s one of my favorite tools for self-development and has helped me so much in my life! This is such a profound reminder, Zoe! When you align your actions and mindset with a strong sense of 'self', the results naturally follow. My goal for 2025 would be to land a job in a field that I've been working hard to break into for some time now.

This self-concept loop is an almost exact match to John Boyd's OODA loop (observation - orientation - decision - action). Experiences = observation; beliefs = orientation; thoughts = decision; actions = action. So there's a whole body of theory in OODA about how to use this kind of loop to create change, and what the mechanics of it are. The OODA loop is designed to create change during a military conflict, or 'outer conflict.' Whereas I suppose this loop could help you create change in the presence of 'inner conflict.'

2) This is the exact thing I need to do, but don’t want to do, but have to do, & know I should do to take my life where I’m avoiding. You uploaded this just in the nick of time.

For me, I bypass concepts and go straight for the love - more specifically, unconditional love for myself, my inherent worth, my intrinsic value. I then ask myself: which signature vibration best represents who I am deep down inside? Is it peace, love, joy, bliss, grace, ease, or flow? For me, it's flow, and so I embody that, day after day after day 🙂

What if it's not thoughts that I am lazy or can't do it but that I'm doing it and outside factors like a car breaking down, being laid off, or getting injured keeps kicking me back. Or disappointing situations like discrimination or abuse are kicking me back? Can you do a video that explains how outside factors can play into this and how to also build a system to manage those outside factors.
