El Paso is a 1949 American Western film directed by Lewis R. Foster and starring John Payne, Gail Russell and Sterling Hayden.

Plot
After serving in the Civil War, an ex-Confederate captain is ready for a quiet life as a lawyer in peacetime El Paso, Texas. However, with a corrupt sheriff, a drunken judge and a crooked landowner running the town, he decides to form a vigilante group to combat them.

GAIL RUSSELL was so beauriful. I remember him from the movie ANGEL and the BADMAN with JOHN WAYNE.

The good guy - played by John Payne - hung an innocent man -- and to make things worse, the victim was a man of God.
In this respect the movie shows the problems with vigilantism. When due process is abandoned it damages all of society.
We can see it today in our court system.

The guns used in the movie are historically wrong. With confederate soldiers coming home around 1865, almost everyone carries Colts mod. 1873 and Remington 1875 and Springfield muskets in cal. 45_70

Hayden had a limited role, although he started as the hero's antagonist, and the ending was a bit too convenient, in relation to what had happened before. Nevertheless, I liked the movie.
