This little guy is the Ryzen 5 4500, a 3 year old CPU in 2 year old branding, that launched in April of 2022. I say 3 year old CPU because this chip is based on the Zen 2 architecture launched back in mid 2019, it’s a 6 core, 12 thread, 4.1GHz boost clocked chip that’s labelled as a 4th generation CPU, as in the generation that didn’t really happen except for mobile chips.

It's a 6 core, 12 thread, up to 4.1 GHz CPU. You're being a little harsh. It's a great CPU for budget gamers which most of your audience likely is.

I'll put it this way, I got this CPU because I was building my first PC and didn't want to break the bank on a CPU that was more than about 110 or so bucks. This gives me plenty of performance for modern games compared to my PS4 slim that I've been playing on for the past 4 years. And coming from something that regularly gave me 30 or so fps to something that rarely gets down to a low of the mid to high 50's in fps on a very consistent basis, this is a very noticeable upgrade for me. I have this paired with a gtx 1660 super and 16gb 3200 DDR4 ram and MSI A520M-A pro motherboard while being hooked up to my tv which maxes out at 1080p and 60fps. My main goal was getting a computer than ran better than my current PS4 slim. Basically, this CPU is a part of the reason I could afford to actually get into PC gaming.

think this is for people looking to upgrade from aging hardware to a more modern platform, as cheap as possible. with it going on sale quite often for just £75 its a pretty good deal for the absolute cheapest cpu that has 6c/12t

small correction, 5500 is a 5600g with fused off igpu and also a laptop chip -> also limited to pcie 3

Good video. I don't blame tech channels for this kind of review, most tech reviewers are younger enthusiasts. The Ryzen 5 4500 is not an enthusiast cpu, it is a cheap $120 cpu (AMD lists the 4500's MRSP at $122 U.S) for people who casually use a pc and they can upgrade from a Ryzen 3 1200 or Ryzen 5 1400, etc and they have a B350/B450 motherboard that just got a final bios update. A 6c/12t cpu for $120 is a good deal and will last many non enthusiasts for years. IF a retailer is selling a 3600 for less, like Newegg in the U.S then obviously get the 3600 cpu. And yes, AMD is dumping old stock.

Nowadays it costs about $105 in my country. Cool enough for someone who look for drop-in replacement for their old gen. 1 and gen. 2 Ryzens.

So getting the R5 4500 for £78 should be a great deal then?

I recommend the 4500 paired with any A520 chipset based motherboard.. paired with any GTX 10 series VGA or any RTX 20 series.. those cards are out there now on the cheap. And you can have a really nice budget pc! I built one with 4500.. RTX super 16 gb ddr3600 ram . A520 Maxsun brand motherboard all from Amazon and my grandkids love it! It runs very well and they are happy and it didn’t break the bank!

I bought this CPU for $70 U.S. I think was a good price.

thank you for comparing it to the 3600, were a few reviews that didnt.

It is a bad review. Like all enthusiasts, they are upset about budget options. Their reviews are pointless, because they are comparing much cheaper chip to more expensive ones. It kinda misses the whole point of a chip itself. It is at the moment the cheapest modern chip available in my market. It is plenty powerful for a casual gamer or for someone who is upgrading their PC. Only enthusiasts are mad at it for not generating competitive FPS.

Well, in my country, the price is $80 for the Box ver. & $65 for the Tray ver. So it makes sense to buy this processor.

i have bought a prebuilt pc with exactly the same specs as shown in these videos and with my expierence everything this mans says is true. the pc is still a beast with even running games at 4k 60 no problem but with (some) newer titles the 1% lows can be frustrating. still if ur on a budged the 4500 is a great option in my opinion. its even running sqaud without any stuttering.

I am from Argentina, and the prices of current processors are through the roof. Not only is our economy in shambles, but also the prices of things are higher than the rest of the world due to import, distribution, purchase, and other taxes. Today, 10/20/2023

An i3 10100f or 10105f would have cost around $112, 000 ARS
An i5 10400f around $175, 000 ARS
An R5 5600g around $189, 000 ARS

The R5 4500 cost me $84, 999 ARS, and I am very satisfied with it, considering how difficult it is to get hardware these days. The fact that AMD releases these kinds of processors, which end up being unsold stock, often helps people in situations like mine, so I believe that's the market niche these types of processors cater to.

I would Change the graphics card to a Rx 6600, and use the difference on the CPU

Actually, I don't hate this chip at this point. The price has fallen quite a bit since the release, which has made it a lot more appealing. I live in Denmark and at this point the 12100f has increased in price, and LGA 1700 motherboards haven't gotten any cheaper, meaning that platform is just more expensive than at launch... While the Ryzen 4500 and 4100 have fallen in price, and AM4 motherboards are still fairly cheap. The 4500 is only slightly more expensive than the 4100, so for me it seems like a viable budget option at the moment, if you want just a little more headroom to do other tasks on your pc while gaming, like streaming or watching videos or something.
Of course PCIE3 is a bit annoying, but I would never go for an RX 6500 XT or RX 6400 anyway... If I was going to build a new budget gaming pc at the moment, the lowest GPU I would go for would be an RX 6600, which is incredible at its price.

At the moment, with pricings as they are, I would go for a Ryzen 4100 or 4500, budget B450 MATX motherboard, RX 6600, 500-1000GB NVME, 16GB G.skill Aegis 3000mhz, 500-600watt bronze PSU and the Cooler Master TD300 case. This leaves room for a lot of upgrades down the road, even though AM5 has been released. Only thing I would consider changing would be going for a 80+ Gold PSU. So no, it's not like a super budget build, but it's where budget meets amazing price to performance.

My thoughts exactly on the whole pairing of this CPU with the 6500XT, the two just don't go together. Who knows, maybe pairing with with the forthcoming 6400XT will result in more self-owning!

I do not get it.
Where was the ryzen 5 5500 in the comparison ?

This seems like a marketing fail by AMD

I feel that this might have some use if someone wants to build a low end pc for nas or for home media system but for these you’d need lower pricing! My thoughts are they’re dumping everything they can to “recicle” and get some out…
