What Is Egoism? Stirner's Egoism 101

Egoism is a philosophy by Max Stirner first published in 1844. Stirner's Egoism might not be easy to understand for everyone, since it is a niche philosophy from a particular culture and history. In this video essay I've explained some of the ideas of Egoism.

I initially made this video to show people new to Egoism, however I ended up being very specific to the Unique and it's Property as it's translated, and failed to explain a lot of points clearly. I hope to expand on this by writing more modernly worded and easier-to-understand videos in the future!

4:32 I want to be clear that Stirner is being SARCASTIC here. He disapproved of Descartes using "thinking" as a standard for life because the concept of thinking itself is subjective (aka a spook).

Rather than use thought as a standard for life, Egoism claims each being is unique, and not needed to be valued by a compacity for thought.

Stirner is simply poking fun at Descartes viewpoint, which I forgot to explain in the video

Stirner doesn't say race/ethnicity is a spook but one of our qualities/attributes among many. Those things are built into our dna and are very real, Stirner just says not to spookify it and hold them up as something outside us, instead recognize them as what's our own, what is ours at the unique/personal level.

Hey, Soulist here. (Do not trust what you read about us on most websites, haha.) I am viewing this to learn more about Stirner's deeper concepts with Egoism. It was a quite enjoyable video to me. I, myself, am very selfless, and I also support peer-to-peer regulationism of things, as per leftism and Deep Ecology and such. Despite things like this, it is nice to see how the ideology I support most is not really contradictory to this beauty here in any major way. Counterintuitively, that just makes logical sense, but intuitively, it still held space in my mind and I had to see.

I simply see Egoism as just explaining mere facts about reality and ourselves and supporting taking hold of what we can, based on these facts. With that, I wonder how long it will be until a majority of people simply realize it to be true...

i am voluntarily spooked. i like spooks. like for example worshipping a god, that idea makes me feel good, it makes me feel fulfilled. sometimes social constructions are good. it's good to be aware of them when we see it and not let it take advantage of us, but we can utilize them.

Maybe the real spooks were the friends we made along the way :3

Weird that the belief in nothing causes the most judgements on everything. Giving meaning to everything. Why not belief that everything is as it is if nothing is inherently true.

Maybe concepts ares spooks, but it's better to be a necromancer, than to be afraid of ghosts.

If god is everything in everything then that means everything is his and if everything is his god is an egoist, if we are made by his image, why should we not be egoists as well?

Now you say look at the benevolent ruler, he cares for his people, exactly he cares for "his" people, but stand against him and not be one of "his" people and you will see that he does not care for you, because he only cares for what is his because he too is an egoist.

So why can the State, the King, Religion all be egoists and only care for themselves, but the moment an individual cares for himself he is shunned.
