That was my main grip with the passage was that I got so invested in them and it felt like it didn’t matter. After going through all of the books I understand it much better and have much more appreciation for what he did. Excellent writer!

I think keeping expectations somewhat in check and going along for the ride is usually good advice for enjoying books and even being pleasantly surprised

I loved The Passage trilogy. This story will stay with you years and years after you read it.

All of those characters that appear to be “dismissed” are crucial to the entire trilogy and don’t really “leave” the story.

I just had zero problem with the time jump, and I read this on release back in 2010 when I wasn’t sure it was going to be a trilogy (although it was strongly hinted at, at the time). As another commenter pointed out, my initial impression was that it was a way to keep the reader on their toes, to do something unexpected which I thought was cool. Then you read further and like you said, Amy shows up again, then the momentum picks back up. I feel like people who stopped reading after the time jump are not experienced or seasoned readers, they want everything perfectly handed to them and to flow exactly the way they expect. I just couldn’t disagree more with those types of responses.

ironically i found a copy at my goodwill yesterday and bought it since it sounds like something i would be into. and you know what im perfectly ok with it not being like the last of us. if anything, i think that is refreshing

I remember absolutely loving the entire trilogy when I read it years ago, and bawling through the last book because I loved the characters so much. It’s really worth the investment of time.

I was the exact same way. When the story had that flip I had to reread to make sure I was correct. I thought it was a clever way to keep the reader on their toes. The character development is really good too. Loved the trilogy.

It's the tonal change.. I would have preferred to have the trilogy be like the first half of The Passage. The character building was great I don't mind that part.
