The rich lifestyle seems to be more dangerous than the poor one.

Interviewer: "I don't understand a word you're saying, so let's just move along."

The captain of the Bayesian, James Cutfield 51, told Italian police that he wasn’t monitoring the weather closely and the ship’s retractable keel was raised, even with an anchor depth of 160 feet. Lowering the retractable keel would have added stability and made it harder to capsize. The captain of the old sailboat anchored next to the modern Bayesian monitored the bad weather and started her engine to keep the old sailboat’s nose into the wind at anchor to keep from being rolled over in a quick wind shift. It took the Bayesian to capsize at anchor in less than 5 minutes by what the old sailboat's captain anchored next to her said.

The professor talked for 3 minutes, but could have said it all in 40 sec 😂

As usual, BBC has it wrong. The first deceased was a Canadian chef found on Mon when the others were rescued alive. They meant 5 in TOTAL, not 5 found today. Only 4 of 6 were found today (Wed). Sadly, 2 are still missing.

Bless the Professor: "a whole series of frequencies at different frequencies". Aww, leave him alone! The reporter trying to end the exchange quickly is painful. BBC, do a bit better when researching your experts!

Why are the media obsessed with this story ? There have been 5 or 6 (or even more) individual stories about this on the BBC front page at the same time, each day, for days . . . a bunch of rich people were killed, it's bad, but does it deserve so much national attention ? A woman and her three kids were killed in a fire, they got a (one) tiny section / mention, then straight back to multiple articles about the more important wealthy people who died.

Rich peoples' lifestyles aren't immune from the vagaries of the environment. Who woulda thunk it.

What a crappy description. And this guy is a Professor?

The BBC brought on a specialist who is a professor of a well known and highly regarded university to give his expert opinion, he was more than likely paid for his 'expertise' and he hadn't even bothered to do any research on the yacht !! He didn't even know that the mast was made out of aluminium and was reputed to be the first or second depending upon various sources to be the highest aluminium mast on a sailing yacht in the world !! He should be ashamed and embarrassed for his lack of professionalism.

They couldn't find another marine expert who is not a septuagenarian?

Mr. Lynch was celebrating beating the criminal fraud charges against him by taking his closest friends and family on a luxury cruise. It was a sad tragedy but people can take comfort in knowing that all on board were having a truly wonderful time beforehand.

Being at anchor outside the harbor in a 160 foot depth - the captain and crew should have been more diligent about watching the daily weather reports. Perini Navi has been building yachts from 25M to 90M since 1983 and are a highly successful company. Never underestimate the weather and how fast conditions can change and that is even more so when you are outside the harbor. Why did it sink so fast ? - I think we need more information to make the final call on that. Meanwhile stay tuned.

Tip: playing this on 2x speed - you’ll be amazed at how that professor suddenly sounds so much more like a normal, intelligible person

It all seems kind of fishy to me. All those celebrating the lawsuit win on the boat died when the boat sunk. The other person not on the boat but involved in the lawsuit died in a car accident around the same time.

This Italian guy I think has no idea what he's talking about. BBC found someone with a sailboat that was willing to be on TV. "They should have had 2 crew members on deck!" Maybe they did.

The Bayesian likely had it's keel up, and this buffoon is talking about his experience with a much smaller S/Y, with likely a fixed keel. The Bayesian has one of the tallest masts on an S/Y in the world. With the keel up, the ship's center of gravity is way up high. Water spout/ tornado comes along, ship gets whipped over rapidly. The boffin is right about the vortex. I imagine he would have gotten around to the center of gravity if the interview was allowed to go on for another hour or so.

Maybe they should have moved the S/Y to safer harbors given the forecast, or paid closer attention to the weather at the time.
