Jules Émile Frédéric Massenet (12 May 1842 – 13 August 1912) was a French composer of the Romantic era best known for his operas, of which he wrote more than thirty.

Work: Chérubin, Comédie chantée in three acts, first performance 14 February 1905, Opéra, Monte Carlo.

Libretto: Francis de Croisset and Henri Cain after de Croisset's play of the same name.

Brilliant! The only reason why "Cherubin" isn't in "Composers of Operetta" Gervase Hughes 1963 is surely that he required several books not the one. He doesn't like Massenet's "Don César de Bazan" & the first (recent) recording proves it's rather good.
