"Escape" was included on Holmes' fifth album, Partners in Crime, and reached the Hot 100 No. 1 Hits of 1979. Another popular song on that album was "Him", which peaked at number 6 on the Hot 100. He had another top-40 hit with "Answering Machine". In 1986, Holmes's composition "You Got It All" (sometimes called "You Got It All Over Him") was a top 3 hit single for The Jets and was later recorded by pop superstar Britney Spears and featured in her internationally released version of Oops!... I Did It Again (2000).

The fact that all of his songs told a story makes it no surprise that Rupert Holmes is now enjoying a wonderful career as both an author and playwright.

The recording engineering was delightful, the DTMF dial tone, and answering machine beep. LOL  I love this song...I would have loved to have been in the recording studio when this was made!

The chord progressions especially on the verses are unpredictible.  As a matter of fact, I'd say that's a calling card for RH.  He's a very refreshing artist.

Rupert's songs are brilliant. The unpredictable chord changes flow perfectly, the melodies just lovely and the story - lyrics brilliant! Been a fan since I was a small child in the late 70s into the 80s. Given his music education & background no suprise he always created really amazing tunes. Enough said.

Still Rupert’s third most popular tune. I thought it deserved more love.

OMG! This was my groove as a kid. Just the lyrics along were so clever! Now I laugh that I loved this song so much when I was younger but this groove is a treasure!
