What's weird about this scene is that Sidious actually claims the lightsaber to be the most powerful weapon of the force, despite his distaste for lightsaber combat. Essentially he's saying here that you are only worthy to wield the most obvious weapon. in essence. you are a joke to Palpy, you are unworthy to wield the greater mysteries of the force.
