Ruth Sales: Using laser spectroscopy to protect our environment and boost the economy

One of the problems of traditional chemistry is that you have to destroy things in order to understand them. Dodd-Walls Centre PhD student Ruth Sales is using laser spectroscopy to reveal the secrets of materials without destroying them. Her group is solving the mystery of lake snot infecting New Zealand’s lakes, diagnosing coeliac disease, and improving profits for New Zealand’s meat and dairy industries.
