Great use of Metric I’ve been getting into using metric. From that I have been a lot more confident in measuring. Now it will make it a lot easier when going to Mexico and being easily to use and communicate measurements with builders. Going into the electrician trade and using the NEC code book every measurement is in metric then in parentheses imperial units. After that I’ve decided to go full metric. Hopefully more will see the benefits of metric in America. The hard shift is finding local stores that sell things in metric.

The plastic caliber is invaluable for retaining measurements as a record - I have to measure architectural millwork for a living - Sometime I just have to have bring an exact size back to the studio - when that is required I just use superglue the plastic caliber and mark what it is directly on the back of the caliber with a sharpie.

Back in the 80s and 90s there were so super accurate measuring tools
American made I forgot the name

I used to have folding rules and tape measures all over the house, shop, and truck, foolishly thinking a centimeter was a centimeter. Oh, was I ever wrong. After an expensive lesson, I learned they were not equal and replaced all of them with a Hultafors Class I tape measure and a BMI Class II folding rule. My second lesson the same day was to use the same measuring device in the shop to measure the cut as I used on site to determine what was needed.

For some reason, perhaps that I didn’t have one handy, the folding rule never caught on with me. Having inherited my FIL’s, I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks, Sedge!

Most people bash on Woodpeckers because of the price. But I see the value in them because some of their products like the saddles are really unique and do address the issues with measuring and marking. They say you can buy cheaper versions of these products. But if it weren’t for Woodpeckers, these copycats wouldn’t exist.

I believe the saddle T square is not available in both scales in a single rule anymore, only metric or only imperial😢

I go back and forth on bench doghole size. Do I make 3/4" or 20mm dogholes in my new Moravian bench?
Is there an advantage to using 20mm? If I ever aspire to Festool I'll need 20mm dogholes.

I think for my next build I'm switching to metric

It’s worth repeating, there are two types of countries in this world: those that use metric, and those that have put a man on the moon.

(Yes I know NASA used both, and yes I use metric with Festool, but America - not NASA - sent Apollo 11 up, and I’m not a aerospace engineer).

When you throw in NASA and America and by golly all these other sophisticated nations it scares me so I’m sticking to Cubits for the time being:)
