I mean I’ve seen my buddy set hook on a tarpon and it broke right at the reel. You can say whatever you want but it doesn’t matter to those who actually have seen it happen.

I’ve had the same problem with the last 2 I bought. The whole reason I bought one in the first place is because they’re supposed to be bulletproof. Not only are they not bulletproof they don’t even work right to begin with . So what are you getting for almost a thousand bucks ? Guys will defend these reels up and down . Really nothing more than a shiny pos

Why would anybody spend so much money on one of these Chinese made reels when you can get a superior Penn spinfisher greenie from the 60's for a fraction of the cost ?

So don’t buy either if they both rub. Just too much money for a reel if it will have issues . For that price the reel should dive into the water and bring me back the fish personally .

You can clearly see the old one has a 30 degree chamfer (that means, it’s like a ramp) the new one is clearly just cut at a 90° angle to the spool, which yes under tension would cause loads of wear on your line.

The newer one is rubbing against a much harsher angle, where as the old one looks much more smoothed out 🤷🏻‍♂️ can see why people may have an issue.

That angle on the first one is significantly steeper than the second one. When the line is coming off the bottom of the spool and the spool is at the bottom of the oscillation, the lines breaking angle is probably 30⁰ where on the second reel, it might be 5⁰-10⁰.

Easiest way to avoid this problem: Learn to cast a conventional reel

I have an old vs150 it’s tight like a pepper grinder . Think the quad seal is bad but not sure 🤔

No big deal. Get your reel to any VS Service Center and have it upgraded to the new rotor for free.
