1st Place Improv West Coast Swing with Keerigan and Ashley

Ashley and I got randomly paired at Jack n Jill O’Rama earlier this year, and though it was still a great dance, we knew we could put something stronger on the floor together. We decided to do a strictly (still improv, but you get to choose your partner) at Desert City Swing. I really feel like we were able to show what we can produce together in this dance, and apparently the judges did too. She and I took home the gold for this one. Fun fact: I did not know this song very well at all (hence her having to push to get the “shhhh”).

I don't think most people will understand how difficult this is. The partnering skills required, ooff. I've competed ballroom and latin dancing in which you practice a routine before competing, and already then partnering skills need to be really good. Can't imagine doing it on the fly. So fun to watch, keep going!

I recently watched an Insta reel that showed how the improv couples dictated the physical comfort level with one another and this video show me that situation perfectly!.

The reel said that a good way to communicate this without talking is to signal your comfort with a hand placement on the back of your dance partner (showing you’re receptive to your bodies being super physically close), for moderate comfort level inside a small personal bubble to touch the dance partners shoulders (showing them they want a distance separating their bodies) and then an arm giving a light push to your dance partners body at arms length (showing you don’t want to be at all close to the dance partner or as a warning to back out of the physical space).

this was really something else. i just watched it for the third time, trying to find out what makes it so special. i love ALL of your dancefloor partners and know very well that whatever the viewer perceives as loose/ smooth/ easy (-going) takes an enormous amount of concentration in any case. this, however, has an extra touch of "collected", some hint of "tension" that serves it well. sorry, i feel like i can put my finger on it but not my tongue (so to speak).
