Jamie Kirchick, Author of The end of Europe, explained to Business Insider why he thinks David Cameron may go down as the worst British prime minister since Neville Chamberlain.

He said: "He was complacent. The entire political class in Britain actually was complacent about this (Brexit). When it was put up for a vote they didn't think it ever had a chance of succeeding."

"I think most people who voted were aware [that EU membership was a good thing] and they just decided that this notion of "sovereignty" was more important to them then whatever benefits the country might accrue"

What about Boris Johnson? Where does it stand? Doesn’t he make Cameron look good?

I didn't vote but you called the Brexiteers, who made up the majority of the vote, the quiet minority. That makes no sense. The result of the referendum shocked most people, I think the quiet majority would be a lot better suited to what he's saying. The video was absolute nonsense he really doesn't know what he's talking about

In my personal opinion in the experiences I've had over 30 yrs, is that they're all the worst PM's this country has had. Have things gotten better and easier? (No)! Are people in general happier and closer then before?( NO)! When people wake up if they are actually asleep? Then they'll realise that all MP's in the main 3 parties are your enemies and not your helpers. But looking at the world as it is nowadays I think people enjoy being corrupt by voting for the same old crap.

No one should ever propose a vote on something if they themselves are going to campaign for the existing position. However, Boris Johnson and Liz Truss were obviously unfit to hold the position of PM and their voters have to take responsibility as well. It can only be hoped that circumstances have reached such a point that ideological Tory voters will come to their (common) senses and realise that their criteria for voting are deeply flawed. Because there will always be opportunists and incompetents more than willing to seize the position of PM and the only way of preventing that is reducing the number of voters who cast their vote blindly.

I personally thought Cameron wasn't that terrible. Johnson is off the scale worse.

People forget the damage that the likes of Nick Clegg and Farage did. Cameron, however is second behind Sunak who takes first place for me. Why on earth people vote Tory is beyond me.

Greece enter EU back in the 80s without a referendum. Then Prime Minister Karamanlis knew people will vote against it, by emotion, but he knew this will benefit the country in the long run, and it did. The referendum was a mistake indeed, and now the Englishmen are about to loose Scotland...

Here we have a non British commentator with little or no insight into Brexit, dismisses sovereignty as in significant but has no understanding that to many people thats what Brexit was about.he is of the mind set that financial gain should be the only thing people should think of. All I can say is what a knob head

So, Cameron's going to be regarded as the worst PM on the basis of him calling a vote on a single issue? Give over. I wonder if Kirchick even considered anything beyond the EU membership issue here when making this damning statement...

I completely agree re Cameron. Total incompetent.
I have reservations re Chamberlain comments. We had just had a world war, and he was doing what he could to avoid another. Hence, Churchill's wilderness years. Unfortunately, we were dealing with Hitler.
But Cameron, I suspect if I give vent to my views, my comment would be deleted. Let's just say that, apart from the Brexit incompetence then running away, another video shows him as him being almost unique in revealing the Queen's views. I feel nothing but contempt for him.
