David French, a conservative, joins #MorningJoe to explains his recent New York Times Op-Ed about why he is voting for Harris. Acknowledging that while he has some significant policy disagreements with Harris, French says it is more important to prioritize issues like respect for American democracy and defense of allies over traditional policy concerns in this election:
“We cannot treat this like a regular election where some of the regular policy issues dictate our vote. There are other front-line, top-tier issues like respect for American democracy... and we can’t pretend they’re not there.”

Remember: Republicans could have just nominated a normal conservative

I yearn for the days when Republicans run someone I completely disagree with but can respect and trust to protect democracy.

Much gratitude to these Republicans with integrity such as David French, Adam Kinzinger, Liz Cheney. Much more is needed.

What he's describing is the way REAL Republicans and Democrats USED to interact all the way up to the 1980s. Then all heck broke loose!

You can always have a conversation with rational people, but not members of a cult.

I am 68yrs old black Christian first and a conservative second. I feel a lot like him. I am not a supporter of the former president or MAGA. I gave the former president the benefit of the doubt during his presidency. I will be voting for VP Harris and gov Wàlz. I believe in much of what he has stated.

Canadian here. Makes me sooo happy to see so many Americans who would normally not vote for the Democratic candidate, planning to vote for Kamala Harris. Good luck to our North American sister, may She always be the Land of the Free and Home of the (very) Brave. 🇨🇦💙🇺🇸

I heard him speak at Duke a year ago. I’m a Democrat. He’s a Conservative’s Conservative. This is not some moderate making an endorsement to the party they were already leaning towards. I’m happily surprised to see this.

None of us agree with every single politician on every single subject, and on that, we can all agree. I appreciate that David French can see and understand what's most important for America and ALL of HER people! 🗽⚖️
