Sri Lanka - EVERYTHING You Need to Know Before Visiting

Sri Lanka isn't as well-known as a tourist destination as, for example, Thailand or Vietnam. It offers a different type of experience, and in many ways it's not as over-exploited as other Asian destinations. I decided to explore Sri Lanka and tell you everything you need to know before visiting!

This video covers travel preperations for Sri Lanka, how to get around, and what to expect from the visit. This includes how to behave, and cultural concerns that you should keep in mind. It also discusses different aspects of safety when traveling in Sri Lanka.

My trip took me from Colombo to Dambulla, Sigiriya, Kandy and onwards to Ella. From there I visited Yala National Park, Unawatuna, Galle, and then back to Colombo.

Aside from that I also show various places that you might want to visit. These include:
- Dambulla Cave Temple
- Pidurangala Rock
- Sigiriya, on top of Lion Rock
- The Temple of the Tooth in Kandy
- The train between Kandy and Ella
- Little Adam's Peak in Ella
- Nine Arches Bridge
- Many of the sights at Yala National Park
- The Unawatuna beach
- Galle Fort, including the town and the lighthouse
- Final thoughts when I reached Colombo once more

And there's of course a lot more covered in this video. How to deal with money, where to find a driver, negotiating tuktuk prices, the economic situation in Sri Lanka, and a lot more. Check out the video for a guide to everything you might want to know before your trip!

The people of Sri Lanka are known for their warm hospitality and friendly, open nature. They exude an extraordinary warmth that is reflected in their everyday lives. In Sri Lanka, the concept of "hospitality" is truly lived – visitors are welcomed like friends, often with a wide smile and a cup of freshly brewed Ceylon tea. It's not uncommon to be drawn into a conversation on the street that ends with an invitation for a meal or a visit to their home.

What sets the people of Sri Lanka apart is their deeply ingrained culture of respect and care. Despite the challenges many Sri Lankans face in their daily lives, they approach others with incredible calmness and a positive attitude. This mindset is also reflected in their close connection to nature and their traditions – living simply in harmony with the environment, a deep spirituality, and a respectful approach to nature and animals.

Sri Lankans are creative, welcoming, and always eager to help others. Whether in rural villages or bustling cities, there is a strong sense of community where people support one another. They take great pride in their country, their history, and their traditions, and are more than happy to share them with those interested in their culture.

The diversity of ethnic groups and religions in Sri Lanka adds to the country’s unique culture, and the people live this diversity in remarkable harmony. This openness and acceptance of one another is not only reflected in daily interactions but also in the joy and pride they express through their festivals, dances, and culinary heritage.

Overall, the people of Sri Lanka are a living example of kindness, hospitality, and the power of a positive mindset. Those who visit the country will be enchanted not only by its breathtaking nature and history but also by the warm-hearted, generous people who make it such a special place.

I was super excited to see this video as a Sri Lankan who followed this channel to know about Sweden for quite a while, however, something I would want to add, you mentioned "It's not exactly a foody destination", well, I would say Sri Lanka has a variety of foods that you enjoy depends on your location where you stay.

‘Tear drop of India’ is a recent coinage, after the ethnic war that raged here. Also we are no part of India, we are an independent nation. It was always known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. In ancient times it was known as the Granary of the East because we had the most marvelous irrigation systems that produced a surplus of food that was exported too; this was more than 1500 years ago. The earliest name of the island was Sinhalaya, Helaya to the natives. This was more than7500 years ago. Later, visitors and colonists called it different names. Thambapanni ( Bengali Prince Vijaya who married the native queen Kuweni 600BC); Taprobane (Greeks) Serendib(Arabs) Seylan (Portuguese) Ceylon (British). Sri Lanka was the name adopted when it became a republic in 1972)
