The Bible is God's Word. But what should be the criteria for interpreting it correctly?

Matt Swaim talks to Dr. Vern Steiner, who was a Protestant pastor, seminary professor and Biblical scholar, about the value of his Protestant formation in Scripture, as well as its limits, and what led him to enter the Catholic Church and create a Catholic Bible Institute to continue his work in exegesis and Biblical scholarship.

Dr. Steiner gave a very scholarly accounting of how Jesus led him into Catholicism. He calls it a happy surrender. Amen. Well done Doctor.

When I was a Protestant we were told the Holy Spirit would guide our interpretation of scripture, it wasn't until I attended a Catholic Mass that scripture made sense. The whole Mass is scripture!

This is a great story. I am not a Cradle Catholic but a late comer baptised Anglican and in my late 20's started going to Catholic Mass and visited lots ofHistoric Catholic Churches on vacations and Shrines when I travelled, which must have been guided by the Holy Spirit. I even was visiting a Methodist friends Church but was guided to a Mass first I feel by god. I find the Catholic Church is an an hidden gem thats often overlooked and hidden for all kinds of reasons including ignorance and bigotry . I say for any none Catholics go to a Mass pray a Catholic Prayer, pray Rosary and listen to these discussions. Read this gentlemans books and get a Catholic Bible and Catechism

I was a protestant most of my life and took my scriptural study very seriously. I was a calvinist for the majority of it even though i didnt completely understand the theology. Over the 10 years i believed it, i felt like no church had truly figured out the marriage between scripture and doctrine but Calvin was probably the closest. Still there were several problems i had with Calvinism to the point where i dropped one of the 5 points.... i couldnt stop thinking about how that point affected the other's.... eventually i lost another one. I became obsessed with finding the true church after that and was shocked to discover carholicism is by far the most biblical. I got confirmed this easter amen. Ill never leave i love being in the church. Never felt so sure and thats the truth.

Please pray for my former Protestant pastor Dr Tim Keller who is very ill. He needs a miracle. I pray for his conversion to the catholic faith. He was a huge stepping stone for me to come home to Rome.

As a Catholic, I learned that the most important for Jesus and our Father is to be a good person, make God happy, to love God number 1, and your neighbors as yourself. That is already a lot of sacrifice and humility. So our purpose really is to serve others, the sick, the hungry, the one with no shelter, etc. because when we love our brothers and others, we are returning Our Father’s love.

I am amazed at your story and am getting emotional and thankful, that your knowledge of the Scriptures and your embracing the Catholic Church open our eyes and teach us how to be more Catholic!! Thank you so much for responding to God's Call to deepen our Faith as cradle Catholics. May God bless you and your family abundantly! I liked how you said that your son fathered you in Faith, something like that when you appeared at Marcus Grodi with your son!!

I was a born and raised a Jehovah’s Witness. Extremely anti Catholic (Christ) and then God got me out of that and I became a non denominational. Was still anti Christian but God worked on me and the night I decided to reject him as a false God he spoke to my soul. And I demanded from Jesus in a my fury that if he is real, to reveal to me his true Faith and nothing less. It was a really hard year but God converted me to the Catholic Church that I viewed as the Church of the devil and ruler of all false religion

I am a cradle Catholic and will die a Catholic. We have great bible studies in a parish - small group, but open to the whole large parish. I have learnt so much since joining the new parish - a lot depends on the priest and his teachings.

I think Dr. V. Steiner is an honest & humble man despite being very learned in scripture. I hope to pick up some pointers to help me convince my Catholic friends who have been swayed by protestants in my home country, Singapore.

I remember some catholic guy saying he was so surprised that upon reading much of the New Testament that the Bible was so catholic. I find the same. What ever I read my total catholic outlook shines out. Especially references re the Eucharist. Protestant interpretations seems like purposeful distortions.

I am amazed by the learning of most Protestant Pastors and their extensive knowledge of the Bible, however I wonder how they seem to ignore the actual political history of the 16 and 17 centuries. The ruling classes IE. The Monarchs and Aristocracy actually stole the religion of the common people plus the wealth of the church, all for their own greed and aggrandisement. And boy did they succeed.😅The Tudors in England and the Princelings in Germany have a great sin to answer for. Thank God my forebears were able to escape these schismatics and remained true to the Barque of Peter. To my Protestant friends I please, please read and study actual history as well as the Bible.

Don’t make the Bible more important than its message! I’m Roman Catholic, and officially joined the “family” in 2020. Keep up the great work, guys and gals!👍
